1 Et Hiram, roi de Tyr, envoya à David des messagers, et du bois de cèdre, et des maçons et des charpentiers, pour lui bâtir une maison. 2 Et David reconnut que l'Eternel l'affermissait comme roi sur Israël et que sa royauté était haut élevée à cause de son peuple d'Israël. 3 Et David prit encore des femmes à Jérusalem, et David engendra encore des fils et des filles. 4 Et voici les noms des enfants qu'il eut à Jérusalem : Sammua et Sobab, Nathan et Salomon 5 et Jibhar et Elisua et Elpélet 6 et Nogah et Népheg et Japhia 7 et Elisama et Béeljada et Eliphélet. 8 Et quand les Philistins apprirent que David avait été oint comme roi sur tout Israël, tous les Philistins montèrent pour chercher David. Et David l'apprit et il sortit au-devant d'eux. 9 Et les Philistins vinrent et se répandirent dans la vallée des Réphaïm. 10 Et David consulta Dieu en disant : Monterai-je contre les Philistins, et les livreras-tu entre mes mains ? Et l'Eternel lui dit : Monte, et je les livrerai entre tes mains. 11 Et ils montèrent à Baal-Pératsim, et David les battit là. Et David dit : Dieu a dispersé mes ennemis par ma main comme des eaux qui s'écoulent. C'est pourquoi on donna à ce lieu le nom de Baal-Pératsim. 12 Et ils abandonnèrent là leurs dieux, qui furent brûlés, sur l'ordre de David. 13 Et les Philistins se répandirent de nouveau dans la vallée. 14 Et David consulta encore Dieu, et Dieu lui dit : Tu ne monteras pas après eux ; détourne-toi d'eux et tu arriveras sur eux du côté des mûriers. 15 Et quand tu entendras un bruit de pas dans les cimes des mûriers, alors marche au combat, car Dieu sera sorti à votre tête pour battre l'armée des Philistins. 16 Et David fit comme Dieu lui avait ordonné, et ils battirent l'armée des Philistins depuis Gabaon jusqu'à Guézer. 17 Et la renommée de David se répandit dans tous les pays, et l'Eternel mit la frayeur de David sur toutes les nations.
