1 Voici qu’un roi exercera |son règne avec justice,et ses ministres |gouverneront selon le droit, 2 et chacun d’eux sera |comme un abri contre le vent,un refuge contre l’orage,comme un cours d’eau |sur un sol desséché,ou comme l’ombre d’un rocher massif |dans un désert aride. 3 Alors les yeux |de ceux qui devraient voir |ne seront plus aveugles,les oreilles des auditeurs |se feront attentives. 4 Les gens écervelés |réfléchiront afin d’apprendre,et la langue des bègues |parlera clairement |avec facilité. 5 On ne considérera plus |l’insensé comme un noble,on ne dira plus du trompeur |qu’il est quelqu’un de grand. 6 L’insensé, en effet, |dit des insanités.Il est porté, au fond de lui, |à commettre le mal,à agir sans respect pour Dieu,à tenir des propos blasphématoires |pour l’Eternel.Il laisse l’affamé |avec le ventre creuxet prive de boisson |celui qui meurt de soif. 7 Les manœuvres du fourbe |sont malveillantes,il projette des mauvais coupspour opprimer les pauvres |par des paroles fausses,alors que l’indigent |réclame son bon droit. 8 Mais l’homme au noble cœur |a de nobles desseinset toute sa conduite |reflète sa noblesse. 9 O femmes qui vivez tranquilles,debout ! écoutez-moi !Vous, filles insouciantes,écoutez mes paroles : 10 Dans un peu plus d’un an,vous tremblerez, |vous insouciantes,car la vendange |n’aura pas lieuet il n’y aura pas |de fruits à récolter. 11 Vous serez effrayées, |vous qui vivez tranquilles.Tremblez, vous insouciantes,quittez vos vêtements, |et déshabillez-vous,ceignez vos reins de pagnes, 12 frappez-vous la poitrine, |lamentez-voussur les belles campagnes,sur les vignes fécondes, 13 sur la campagne de mon peupleoù pousseront les ronces |et les épinesqui envahiront même |les joyeuses maisonsde la cité en liesse. 14 Car le palais est déserté,et la ville animée |abandonnée,la citadelle |avec la tour de guetservira de caverne |à tout jamais.Et les ânes sauvages |y prendront leurs ébats.Les troupeaux y paîtront. 15 Il en sera ainsi |jusqu’à ce que l’Esprit |soit répandu sur nous d’en haut,et alors le désert |deviendra un verger,et le verger sera |semblable à la forêt. 16 Le droit habitera |dans le désert,et la justice |dans le verger. 17 Le fruit de la justice |sera la paix.L’effet de la justice,ce sera la tranquillité |et la sécurité |à tout jamais. 18 Mon peuple habitera |un domaine de paixdans des demeures sûres,dans des maisons tranquilles. 19 La forêt tombera, |abattue par la grêle,et la cité |tombera au plus bas. 20 Bienheureux serez-vous : |vous sèmerez partout |le long d’eaux abondanteset vous pourrez laisser |les bœufs comme les ânes |en liberté.
