1 Bed Herren om regn om foråret, for så vil regnen give vækst til markens planter. Det er jo Herren, der skaber tordenskyerne og sender regn. 2 Husgudernes svar var falske, og sandsigernes syner var svindel. Alle deres drømme var kun tomme ord. Derfor fór I vild som får, der ingen hyrde har. 3 „Jeg er vred på dem, som skulle være hyrder og ledere for mit folk,” siger Herren, den Almægtige. „Jeg vil velsigne min hjord, Judas folk. De skal ikke længere være som vildfarne får, men stærke som prægtige stridsheste. 4 Jeg vil oprejse ledere iblandt dem, som skal give støtte, håb og sejr. 5 Folket skal blive mægtige krigere for Herren og træde fjenderne ned i støvet under deres fødder. Herren er med dem i kampen, så deres fjender lider nederlag. 6 Jeg gør Juda stærk og redder Israel. Jeg vil være barmhjertig imod dem og føre dem hjem. Det skal være, som om jeg aldrig havde forstødt dem, for jeg er Herren, deres Gud, og jeg hører deres råb om hjælp. 7 Jeg gør dem stærke, som var de heltemodige krigere, og jeg gør dem glade, som havde de drukket vin. Deres børn skal se det og glæde sig, og alle skal juble over Herren. 8 Jeg kalder dem hjem og samler dem sammen, for jeg har befriet dem. De skal igen blive talrige som før. 9 Selv om jeg spredte dem blandt fjerne folkeslag, vil de aldrig glemme mig. Både de og deres børn skal vende hjem til deres eget land. 10 Fra Egypten og Assyrien henter jeg dem og lader dem bosætte sig i Gilead og Libanon. Der vil ikke være plads til dem alle. 11 Når jeg, Herren, fører mit folk gennem trængslens hav, lægger bølgerne sig. Nilens strømme tørrer ud, og Assyriens og Egyptens herredømme over mit folk får ende. 12 Jeg gør mit folk stærkt, og hvor de end kommer frem, vil de vandre i min kraft, erklærer Herren.
