1 Il me dit : Fils d'homme, tiens-toi debout, et je te parlerai. 2 Et comme il me parlait, l'Esprit entra en moi et me fit tenir debout, et j'entendis celui qui me parlait, 3 et il me dit : Fils d'homme, je t'envoie vers les fils d'Israël, vers des païens, ces rebelles, qui se sont rebellés contre moi. Eux et leurs pères m'ont abandonné même jusqu'à ce jour-ci. 4 Ces fils à la face raide et au cœur dur, c'est vers eux que je t'envoie. Et tu leur diras : Ainsi a dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel. 5 Et quant à eux, qu'ils écoutent ou qu'ils ne le fassent pas, car c'est une famille de rebelles, ils sauront qu'il y a eu un prophète au milieu d'eux. 6 Et toi, fils d'homme, n'aie pas peur d'eux et n'aie pas peur de leurs paroles ; car tu es avec des orties et des épines, et tu habites avec des scorpions. N'aie pas peur de leurs paroles et ne tremble pas devant eux, car c'est une maison de rebelles. 7 Et tu leur diras mes paroles, qu'ils écoutent ou qu'ils ne le fassent pas, car ce sont des rebelles. 8 Et toi, fils d'homme, écoute ce que je te dis : Ne sois pas rebelle comme cette maison rebelle ; ouvre ta bouche et mange ce que je te donne. 9 Et je regardai, et voici une main était tendue vers moi ; et voici, elle tenait un livre roulé. 10 Et il le déploya devant moi, et le livre était écrit en dedans et en dehors, et ce qui y était écrit était des chants funèbres, des lamentations et des plaintes.
