1 Như một con ruồi chết làm hôi thối dầu thơm,một phút điên dại làm mất khôn ngoan và danh dự. 2 Lòng người khôn ngoan hướng về điều phải;lòng người dại dột nghiêng về điều trái. 3 Con có thể nhận ra người dạiqua cách đi đứng của họ trên đường! 4 Nếu chủ nổi giận với con, đừng bỏ việc!Thái độ mềm mỏng có thể ngăn ngừa tội nặng. 5 Tôi có thấy một điều tệ hại khác dưới mặt trời. Các vua và những người lãnh đạo đã tạo lỗi lầm 6 khi họ cất nhắc người ngu dại lên chức vụ cao, và người có nhiều khả năng phải giữ địa vị thấp kém. 7 Tôi còn thấy cảnh đầy tớ đi ngựa như các hoàng tử—và hoàng tử lại đi bộ như đầy tớ! 8 Ai đào hố phải sa xuống hố.Ai phá vách nhà cũ sẽ bị rắn rết cắn. 9 Người lăn đá bị đá đè.Người bổ củi bị củi gây thương tích. 10 Dùng một cái rìu cùn sẽ phí nhiều sức,vậy phải mài lưỡi rìu trước.Đó là giá trị của sự khôn ngoan;nó sẽ giúp cho sự thành công. 11 Nếu rắn cắn trước khi bị ếm,thì thầy bùa rắn có ích lợi gì? 12 Lời nói của người khôn đem lại thắng lợi,nhưng miệng lưỡi người dại đem lại tai họa hiểm nghèo. 13 Người dại khởi đầu bằng những lời dại khờ,rồi kết thúc bằng những lời điên cuồng, độc hại; 14 họ khoác lác, rườm rà nói mãi.Không ai biết được việc gì sẽ xảy ra;không ai có thể đoán được việc tương lai. 15 Người dại phí sức khi làm việcđến độ không còn biết đường về thành. 16 Thật khốn cho quốc gia có vua còn trẻ,có người lãnh đạo đãi tiệc lúc hừng đông. 17 Phước cho quốc gia có vua thuộc dòng quý tộc,và cấp lãnh đạo chỉ ăn uống để bổ sức chứ không phải để say sưa. 18 Sự biếng nhác làm mái nhà xiêu vẹo;lười chảy thây làm nhà dột khắp nơi. 19 Tiệc tùng tạo tiếng cười,rượu nồng thêm vui vẻ,và tiền bạc giải quyết mọi vấn đề! 20 Đừng nhục mạ vua, dù chỉ trong tư tưởng.Và đừng nguyền rủa người giàu có, dù ở trong phòng ngủ mình.Vì chim trời có thể loan truyền lời convà loài có cánh có thể thuật điều con nói.
