1 Marī huī makkhiyāṅ ḳhushbūdār tel ḳharāb kartī haiṅ, aur hikmat aur izzat kī nisbat thoṛī-sī hamāqat kā zyādā asar hotā hai. 2 Dānishmand kā dil sahīh rāh chun letā hai jabki ahmaq kā dil ġhalat rāh par ā jātā hai. 3 Rāste par chalte waqt bhī ahmaq samajh se ḳhālī hai, jis se bhī mile use batātā hai ki wuh bewuqūf hai. 4 Agar hukmrān tujh se nārāz ho jāe to apnī jagah mat chhoṛ, kyoṅki pursukūn rawaiyā baṛī baṛī ġhaltiyāṅ dūr kar detā hai. 5 Mujhe sūraj tale ek aisī burī bāt nazar āī jo aksar hukmrānoṅ se sarzad hotī hai. 6 Ahmaq ko baṛe ohdoṅ par fāyz kiyā jātā hai jabki amīr chhoṭe ohdoṅ par hī rahte haiṅ. 7 Maiṅ ne ġhulāmoṅ ko ghoṛe par sawār aur hukmrānoṅ ko ġhulāmoṅ kī tarah paidal chalte dekhā hai. 8 Jo gaṛhā khode wuh ḳhud us meṅ gir saktā hai, jo dīwār girā de ho saktā hai ki sāṅp use ḍase. 9 Jo kān se patthar nikāle use choṭ lag saktī hai, jo lakaṛī chīr ḍāle wuh zaḳhmī ho jāne ke ḳhatre meṅ hai. 10 Agar kulhāṛī kund ho aur koī use tez na kare to zyādā tāqat darkār hai. Lihāzā hikmat ko sahīh taur se amal meṅ lā, tab hī kāmyābī hāsil hogī. 11 Agar is se pahle ki saperā sāṅp par qābū pāe wuh use ḍase to phir saperā hone kā kyā fāydā? 12 Dānishmand apne muṅh kī bātoṅ se dūsroṅ kī mehrbānī hāsil kartā hai, lekin ahmaq ke apne hī hoṅṭ use haṛap kar lete haiṅ. 13 Us kā bayān ahmaqānā bātoṅ se shurū aur ḳhatarnāk bewuqūfiyoṅ se ḳhatm hotā hai. 14 Aisā shaḳhs bāteṅ karne se bāz nahīṅ ātā, go insān mustaqbil ke bāre meṅ kuchh nahīṅ jāntā. Kaun use batā saktā hai ki us ke bād kyā kuchh hogā? 15 Ahmaq kā kām use thakā detā hai, aur wuh shahr kā rāstā bhī nahīṅ jāntā. 16 Us mulk par afsos jis kā bādshāh bachchā hai aur jis ke buzurg subah hī ziyāfat karne lagte haiṅ. 17 Mubārak hai wuh mulk jis kā bādshāh sharīf hai aur jis ke buzurg nashe meṅ dhut nahīṅ rahte balki munāsib waqt par aur nazm-o-zabt ke sāth khānā khāte haiṅ. 18 Jo sust hai us ke ghar ke shahtīr jhukne lagte haiṅ, jis ke hāth ḍhīle haiṅ us kī chhat se pānī ṭapakne lagtā hai. 19 Ziyāfat karne se haṅsī-ḳhushī aur mai pīne se zindādilī paidā hotī hai, lekin paisā hī sab kuchh muhaiyā kartā hai. 20 Ḳhayāloṅ meṅ bhī bādshāh par lānat na kar, apne sone ke kamre meṅ bhī amīr par lānat na bhej, aisā na ho ki koī parindā tere alfāz le kar us tak pahuṅchāe.
