1 Glem ikke mine gode råd, min søn,hav dem altid i tanke. 2 Lyt til mine råd, så du får et godt liv,pas på dem som på en dyrebar skat. 3 Skriv dig dem bag øret,så du aldrig glemmer dem. 4 Elsk visdom som en søster,lad indsigten være din bedste ven. 5 Lad dem værne dig mod en andens hustru,beskytte dig mod løsagtige kvinders smiger. 6 En dag, jeg sad ved mit vindueog kiggede ud gennem gitteret, 7 så jeg blandt de uforstandige unge mænden, der virkede utrolig naiv. 8 Jeg så ham gå hen ad gaden,på vej mod en bestemt kvindes hus. 9 Tusmørket var faldet på,og snart ville natten komme. 10 Da kom kvinden ham i møde,smilende og udfordrende klædt. 11 Det er en højrøstet og trodsig kvinde,som ikke bare kan sidde derhjemme. 12 Hun står altid på lur efter de unge mændi en døråbning eller på et gadehjørne. 13 Hun greb fat i den unge mand og kyssede ham,mens hun skamløst forklarede: 14 „Jeg har lige bragt et takoffer til Gud,så jeg har masser af kød i huset! 15 Jeg var netop på vej for at opsøge dig,så det var godt, at jeg mødte dig. 16 Min seng er redt med puder og tæpperog det fineste spraglede linned fra Egypten. 17 Jeg har stænket dem med parfumeaf myrra, aloe og kanel. 18 Kom, lad os beruse os i elskov,lad os more os til morgenen gryr. 19 Min mand er ikke hjemme,han er taget på en lang rejse. 20 Han tog en hel sæk penge med,så det varer længe, før han kommer hjem.” 21 Hun besnærede ham med sin talestrøm,forførte ham med sine sukkersøde ord. 22 Hurtigt fulgte han efter hende,som en tyr på vej til slagtning,som en hjort, der går i fælden 23 og kun venter på at få en pil gennem hjertet,som en fugl, der er fanget i nettetog ikke ved hvilken skæbne, der venter den. 24 Hør godt efter, min søn,læg nøje mærke til, hvad jeg siger. 25 Lad dig ikke besnære af sådanne kvinder,hold dig på lang afstand af dem. 26 Utallige mænd har de fået i saksen,mange har mistet livet på grund af dem. 27 Døren til deres hus er indgangen til døden,den fører direkte ned i dødsriget.
