1 Et l'Eternel parla à Moïse en disant : 2 Parle aux fils d'Israël, et fais-toi donner par eux une verge, une verge par maison patriarcale, de la part de tous leurs princes par maisons patriarcales, douze verges ; tu écriras le nom de chacun sur sa verge, 3 et tu écriras le nom d'Aaron sur la verge de Lévi ; car il y aura une verge par chef de maison patriarcale. 4 Et tu les déposeras dans la Tente d'assignation, devant le témoignage, où je me rencontre avec vous. 5 Et l'homme que je choisirai, sa verge fleurira, et je mettrai un terme à ces murmures que les fils d'Israël profèrent contre vous. 6 Et Moïse parla aux fils d'Israël, et tous leurs princes lui donnèrent une verge, chaque prince une verge, selon leurs maisons patriarcales, douze verges ; et la verge d'Aaron était parmi les autres. 7 Et Moïse déposa les verges devant l'Eternel, dans la Tente du témoignage. 8 Et le lendemain, Moïse entra dans la Tente du témoignage, et voici qu'avait fleuri la verge d'Aaron pour la maison de Lévi et il y avait germé des boutons, éclos des fleurs, et mûri des amandes. 9 Et Moïse emporta toutes les verges de devant l'Eternel vers tous les fils d'Israël, et ils les virent et ils prirent chacun sa verge. 10 Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : Replace la verge d'Aaron devant le témoignage, pour être gardée comme un signe pour les enfants de rébellion, et tu feras cesser de devant moi leurs murmures, afin qu'ils ne meurent point. 11 Et Moïse fit ainsi ; il fit comme l'Eternel le lui avait ordonné. 12 Et les fils d'Israël dirent à Moïse : Voici, nous périssons, nous sommes perdus, tous perdus ! 13 Quiconque s'approche, s'approche de la Demeure de l'Eternel, meurt. Devrons-nous donc tous périr ?
