Isaiah 50 (NBS)
1 Ainsi parle le Seigneur : Où est l’attestation de rupture avec laquelle j’ai répudié votre mère ? Ou bien, auquel de mes créanciers vous ai-je vendus ? C’est à cause de vos fautes que vous avez été vendus et c’est à cause de vos transgressions que votre mère a été répudiée. 2 Je suis venu : pourquoi n’y avait-il personne ? J’ai appelé : pourquoi personne n’a-t-il répondu ? Mon bras est-il donc trop court pour libérer ? N’ai-je pas assez de force pour délivrer ? Quand je rabroue la mer, je la dessèche ; je réduis les fleuves en désert ; leurs poissons pourrissent, faute d’eau, ils meurent de soif. 3 Je revêts le ciel d’obscurité et je fais d’un sac sa couverture. 4 Le Seigneur Dieu m’a donné le langage des disciples, pour que je sache soutenir par une parole celui qui est épuisé ; chaque matin, il éveille, il éveille mon oreille, pour que j’écoute à la manière des disciples. 5 Le Seigneur Dieu m’a ouvert l’oreille, et moi, je ne me suis pas rebellé et je ne me suis pas dérobé. 6 J’ai livré mon dos à ceux qui me frappaient et mes joues à ceux qui m’arrachaient la barbe ; je ne me suis pas détourné des insultes et des crachats. 7 Mais le Seigneur Dieu m’a secouru ; c’est pourquoi je n’ai pas été confus, c’est pourquoi j’ai rendu mon visage semblable à du granit, sachant que je n’aurais pas honte. 8 Celui qui me justifie est proche : qui veut m’accuser ? Comparaissons ensemble ! Qui s’oppose à mon droit ? Qu’il s’avance vers moi ! 9 Le Seigneur Dieu viendra à mon secours : qui me condamnera ? Ils tomberont tous en lambeaux comme un vêtement, les mites les dévoreront. 10 Qui parmi vous craint le Seigneur, en écoutant son serviteur ? Quiconque marche dans les ténèbres et manque de clarté, qu’il mette sa confiance dans le nom du Seigneur et qu’il s’appuie sur son Dieu ! 11 Vous tous qui allumez un feu, vous qui vous armez de projectiles incendiaires, allez dans votre feu, dans la fournaise, avec les projectiles incendiaires que vous avez enflammés ! C’est par ma main que cela vous est arrivé ; c’est pour la souffrance que vous vous coucherez !
