1 Então os líderes das casas paternas da família dos filhos de Gileade, filho de Maquir, filho de Manassés, das famílias dos filhos de José, aproximaram-se e falaram diante de Moisés e dos líderes, chefes das casas paternas dos israelitas: 2 O SENHOR ordenou a meu senhor que repartisse a terra como herança aos israelitas por meio de sortes; e meu senhor recebeu ordem do SENHOR de dar a herança do nosso irmão Zelofeade às filhas dele. 3 Acontece que, se elas se casarem com os filhos das outras tribos de Israel, então sua herança será tirada da herança de nossos pais e acrescentada à herança da tribo a que vierem a pertencer. Dessa forma, a nossa propriedade será diminuída. 4 E, quando chegar o ano do jubileu dos israelitas, a parte delas será acrescentada à herança da tribo a que pertencerem. Assim, a herança delas será tirada da herança da tribo de nossos pais. 5 Então Moisés falou aos israelitas, segundo a palavra do SENHOR: O que a tribo dos filhos de José está dizendo é correto. 6 Isto é o que o SENHOR ordenou acerca das filhas de Zelofeade: Que elas se casem com quem escolherem, contanto que se casem na família da tribo de seu pai. 7 Assim a herança dos israelitas não passará de uma tribo para outra, pois os israelitas devem ficar ligados cada um à herança da tribo de seus pais. 8 E toda filha que possuir herança em qualquer tribo dos israelitas deverá casar-se com alguém da família da tribo de seu pai, para que os israelitas possuam cada um a herança de seus pais. 9 Assim nenhuma herança passará de uma tribo para outra, pois as tribos dos israelitas devem ficar ligadas cada uma à sua herança. 10 As filhas de Zelofeade fizeram conforme o SENHOR havia ordenado a Moisés; 11 pois Macla, Tirza, Hogla, Milca e Noa, filhas de Zelofeade, casaram-se com os filhos de seus tios paternos. 12 Casaram-se nas famílias dos filhos de Manassés, filho de José. Assim, a herança delas permaneceu na tribo da família de seu pai. 13 São esses os mandamentos e os preceitos que o SENHOR ordenou aos israelitas por meio de Moisés nas planícies de Moabe, junto ao Jordão, na altura de Jericó.
