1 Vì thế, tôi đã quyết định không đến thăm anh chị em giữa lúc phiền muộn. 2 Nếu tôi làm cho anh chị em phiền muộn, ngoài anh chị em, còn ai có thể làm cho tôi vui mừng? 3 Tôi đã viết điều này cho anh chị em để khi đến thăm, tôi không bị phiền muộn bởi những người đáng lẽ khiến tôi vui mừng. Tôi tin chắc niềm vui của tôi cũng là niềm vui của anh chị em. 4 Giữa cơn khốn khổ, lòng dạ tan nát, nước mắt đầm đìa, tôi đã cầm bút viết thư cho anh chị em, không phải để làm anh chị em phiền muộn, nhưng để anh chị em biết tình thương vô hạn tôi đã dành cho anh chị em. 5 Tôi không quá lời khi nói có người đã gây phiền muộn, không phải riêng tôi nhưng tất cả anh chị em cũng đều phiền muộn. 6 Phần đông anh chị em đã trừng phạt anh ấy, tôi nghĩ thế là đủ. 7 Bây giờ anh chị em nên tha thứ, an ủi anh, để anh khỏi quá buồn rầu, thất vọng. 8 Nên chứng tỏ cho anh ấy biết tình yêu thương của anh chị em. 9 Cũng vì thế, tôi đã viết cho anh chị em, để xem anh chị em có vâng phục tôi trong mọi việc không. 10 Anh chị em tha thứ ai, tôi cũng tha thứ. Tôi tha thứ họ trước mặt Chúa Cứu Thế vì anh chị em. 11 Như thế Sa-tan không thể thắng chúng ta, vì chúng ta thừa biết mưu lược của nó. 12 Khi tôi đến Trô-ách, Chúa đã mở cửa cho tôi truyền giảng Phúc Âm. 13 Vì không gặp Tích, anh em yêu dấu của tôi, nên tôi chẳng an tâm, đành từ giã nơi đó, qua xứ Ma-xê-đoan. 14 Tạ ơn Đức Chúa Trời! Ngài đã cho chúng tôi dự phần chiến thắng với Chúa Cứu Thế, dùng chúng tôi truyền bá Phúc Âm như gieo rắc hương thơm ngào ngạt khắp nơi. 15 Trước mặt Đức Chúa Trời chúng tôi là hương thơm của Chúa Cứu Thế giữa người được cứu rỗi và người bị hư vong. 16 Người hư vong xem chúng tôi như mùi tử khí hôi tanh. Trái lại đối với người tin Chúa, chúng tôi là luồng sinh khí đem lại sức sống hào hùng. Ai có đủ khả năng nhận lãnh chức vụ ấy? 17 Được Đức Chúa Trời ủy thác, chúng tôi chân thành truyền giảng Đạo Chúa trước mặt Ngài, không như nhiều người “thương mại hóa” Đạo Chúa để trục lợi.
