Hosea 12 (BPH)
1 Herren siger: „Efraim lyver og bedrager. Juda flakker om uden at forstå min trofasthed. 2 Israel er fuld af løgn og bedrag, kun optaget af falske værdier. De slutter forbund med Assyrien og giver Egypten gaver for at få hjælp.” 3 Herren bliver nødt til at straffe Judas folk for dets oprør. Jakobs efterkommere må bøde for deres handlinger. 4 Allerede ved fødslen narrede Jakob sin tvillingebror. Som voksen kæmpede han med Gud. 5 Ja, han kæmpede med en engel og sejrede. Han bad og tiggede om en velsignelse. Ved Betel mødte han Herren ansigt til ansigt, og Herren talte til ham, 6 tænk, Herren, den almægtige Gud! 7 Vend jer derfor til Gud! Søg Herren til hver en tid og vær pålidelige og retfærdige i jeres adfærd. 8 Herren siger: „Mit folk er som en købmand, der vejer med falske lodder, som en, der elsker at udnytte andre. 9 ‚Se, hvor rig jeg er blevet!’ praler de. ‚Jeg har samlet mig rigdom uden at gøre noget forkert.’ 10 Jeg er Herren din Gud, som førte dig ud af Egypten. Men nu vil jeg igen lade dig bo i telte, som da vi var sammen i ørkenen. 11 Jeg sendte mine profeter til dig for ved hjælp af syner og billedtale at advare dig. 12 Alligevel er Gilead fyldt med afgudsdyrkelse, og derfor må jeg straffe dem. Der ofres mange okser i Gilgal, men afgudsaltrene vil ende som stendynger på markerne.” 13 Herren tog sig af Jakob, da han i sin tid flygtede til Aram. Dér vogtede han får for at få den kvinde, han elskede. 14 Senere førte Herren sit folk ud af Egypten ved hjælp af en profet, som ledede og beskyttede dem. 15 Men Efraim provokerede Herren til vrede. De fortjener døden for deres forbrydelser, ja, Herren vil straffe dem for deres synder.
