Genesis 15 (LBA)
1 Après ces choses, la parole de l'Eternel fut adressée à Abram en vision, disant : Ne crains point, Abram ; je suis ton bouclier ; ta récompense sera très grande. 2 Et Abram dit : Seigneur Eternel, que me donneras-tu ? Je passe ma vie sans enfants, et l'héritier de ma maison est Dammések Eliézer. 3 Et Abram dit : Vois, tu ne m'as pas donné de postérité, et voici un homme attaché à ma maison sera mon héritier. 4 Et voici, la parole de l'Eternel lui fut adressée en ces termes : Celui-ci ne sera pas ton héritier, mais celui qui sortira de tes entrailles sera ton héritier. 5 Et il le mena dehors et dit : Regarde vers le ciel et compte les étoiles, si tu peux les compter. Et il lui dit : Ainsi sera ta postérité. 6 Et Abram eut foi en l'Eternel, et l'Eternel le lui imputa à justice. 7 Et il lui dit : Je suis l'Eternel qui t'ai fait sortir d'Ur des Chaldéens afin de te donner ce pays pour le posséder. 8 Et il dit : Seigneur Eternel, à quoi connaîtrai-je que je le posséderai ? 9 Et il lui dit : Va me prendre une génisse de trois ans, une chèvre de trois ans, un bélier de trois ans, une tourterelle et un jeune pigeon. 10 Et il lui amena tous ces animaux et les partagea par le milieu, et il mit chaque moitié vis-à-vis de l'autre ; et il ne partagea pas les oiseaux. 11 Et les oiseaux de proie fondirent sur les bêtes mortes, et Abram les chassa. 12 Et comme le soleil allait se coucher, un profond sommeil tomba sur Abram, et voici une terreur, une obscurité profonde, tomba sur lui. 13 Et il dit à Abram : Sache bien que ta postérité sera étrangère dans un pays qui ne sera pas à eux ; ils y seront en servitude et on les opprimera pendant quatre cents ans. 14 Et je jugerai à son tour la nation à laquelle ils auront été asservis, et ensuite ils sortiront avec de grands biens. 15 Et toi, tu t'en iras en paix vers tes pères ; tu seras enseveli dans une heureuse vieillesse. 16 Et à la quatrième génération ils reviendront ici, car jusqu'à présent l'iniquité de l'Amorrhéen n'est pas à son comble. 17 Et lorsque le soleil fut couché et que la nuit fut venue, voici une fournaise fumante et un brandon de feu passaient entre ces animaux partagés. 18 En ce jour-là, l'Eternel traita alliance avec Abram en ces termes : Je donne à ta postérité ce pays, depuis le fleuve d'Egypte jusqu'au grand fleuve, au fleuve d'Euphrate : 19 le pays du Kénien, du Kénizien, du Kadmonien, 20 du Héthien, du Phérézien, des Réphaïm, 21 de l'Amorrhéen, du Cananéen, du Guirgasien et du Jébusien.
