Proverbs 29 (LBA)
1 L'homme répréhensible qui raidit son cou, Sera tout à coup brisé sans espoir de guérison. 2 Quand les justes sont nombreux, le peuple se réjouit ; Mais quand le méchant domine, le peuple gémit. 3 Qui aime la sagesse, réjouit son père, Mais qui fréquente les prostituées, dissipe [son] bien. 4 Par la justice le roi affermit le pays, Mais celui qui multiplie les impôts le ruine. 5 Celui qui flatte son prochain Tend un filet sous ses pas. 6 Dans le péché du méchant il y a un piège, Mais le juste chante et se réjouit. 7 Le juste prend connaissance de la cause du pauvre ; Le méchant ne comprend pas la science. 8 Les moqueurs soufflent [le feu] dans la ville, Mais les sages apaisent la colère. 9 Quand l'homme sage conteste avec le sot, Celui-ci se fâche ou rit, et l'on n'en finit pas. 10 Les gens sanguinaires haïssent l'homme innocent, Et en veulent à la vie des hommes droits. 11 Le sot exhale toute sa fureur, Mais le sage la refoule. 12 Quand un souverain prête l'oreille aux propos mensongers, Tous ses serviteurs sont des méchants. 13 Le pauvre et l'oppresseur se rencontrent ; Celui qui éclaire les yeux de tous deux, c'est l'Eternel. 14 Quand un roi juge les pauvres selon la vérité, Son trône est affermi à toujours. 15 La verge et la répréhension donnent la sagesse, Mais un fils livré à lui-même fait honte à sa mère. 16 Les méchants abondent-ils, le péché abonde ; Mais leur ruine réjouira les yeux des justes. 17 Corrige ton fils, il te donnera du repos Et fera les délices de ton âme. 18 Quand il n'y a pas de visions, le peuple est sans frein ; Heureux qui garde la loi ! 19 Ce n'est pas par des paroles qu'on corrige un esclave, Car il comprend, mais n'obéit pas. 20 As-tu vu un homme prompt à parler ? Il y a plus à espérer d'un sot que de lui. 21 Si tu traites avec trop de ménagements un esclave dès sa jeunesse, Il finira par vouloir être fils. 22 L'homme emporté excite les querelles, Et l'homme adonné à la colère abonde en péchés. 23 L'orgueil de l'homme l'abaisse, Mais l'humble d'esprit obtient la gloire. 24 Celui qui partage avec un larron hait son âme ; Il entend l'adjuration et n'avoue pas. 25 La crainte de l'homme tend un piège, Mais qui se confie en l'Eternel est à l'abri. 26 Beaucoup de gens recherchent la faveur du souverain, Mais c'est l'Eternel qui fixe le droit de chacun. 27 L'abomination des justes, c'est le pervers ; L'abomination des méchants, c'est l'homme droit.
