1 Psaume d'Asaph. Certainement Dieu est bon pour Israël, Pour ceux qui sont nets de cœur. 2 Pourtant, peu s'en est fallu que mes pieds n'aient bronché ; Pour un rien mes pas auraient glissé. 3 Car j'ai porté envie aux orgueilleux, En voyant la prospérité des méchants. 4 En effet, ils sont exempts de tourments ; Intact et replet est leur corps, 5 Ils n'ont aucune part aux souffrances des mortels, Et ils ne sont point frappés avec les humains. 6 Aussi l'orgueil leur sert de collier ; Comme un vêtement, la violence les enveloppe. 7 L'iniquité sort de leur cœur engraissé ; Ils laissent déborder les imaginations de leur cœur, 8 Ils raillent et parlent méchamment d'opprimer ; Leurs paroles descendent de haut, 9 Ils élèvent leur bouche jusqu'aux cieux, Et leur langue se promène sur la terre. 10 Aussi leur peuple se tourne-t-il vers eux Et l'on boit copieusement à leur source. 11 Et l'on dit : Comment Dieu saurait-il ?... Comment le Très-Haut connaîtrait-il ? 12 Voici, tels sont les méchants : Toujours heureux, ils amassent des richesses. 13 C'est en pure perte que j'ai purifié mon cœur Et que j'ai lavé mes mains dans l'innocence : 14 Je n'en ai pas moins été frappé tout le jour, Et tous les matins mon châtiment revient !... 15 Si j'avais dit : Je parlerai ainsi, Voici, j'aurais été infidèle à la race de tes fils ; 16 Mais quand je réfléchis à ces choses, afin de les comprendre, Cela me parut fort difficile, 17 Jusqu'à ce que je fusse entré dans les sanctuaires de Dieu, Et que j'eusse pris garde à leur fin. 18 Certainement tu les places sur un terrain glissant, Tu les fais tomber en ruines. 19 Ah ! comme les voilà détruits en un clin d'œil, Enlevés, anéantis d'épouvante ! 20 Tel un songe au réveil, Ainsi, Seigneur, quand tu t'éveilles, tu mets en mépris leur vaine apparence. 21 Lorsque mon cœur s'aigrissait, Et que je sentais dans mes reins un aiguillon, 22 J'étais stupide et sans aucune intelligence, J'étais à ton égard comme les bêtes. 23 Et pourtant je suis toujours avec toi, Tu m'as saisi par la main droite, 24 Tu me conduiras par ton conseil, Puis, tu me prendras dans la gloire. 25 Quel autre ai-je au ciel que toi ? Je n'ai pris plaisir sur la terre qu'en toi. 26 Ma chair et mon cœur peuvent se consumer, Dieu est le rocher de mon cœur et mon partage à toujours. 27 Car voici, ceux qui s'éloignent de toi périront ; Tu anéantis tous ceux qui te sont infidèles. 28 Pour moi, m'approcher de Dieu, c'est tout mon bien. J'ai assis ma retraite sur le Seigneur, l'Eternel, Afin de raconter toutes tes œuvres.
