1 La Sagesse a bâti sa maison, elle a taillé ses sept colonnes. 2 Elle a égorgé une bête, préparé son vin et dressé sa table. 3 Elle a envoyé ses servantes, elle crie sur les points culminants des hauteurs de la ville : 4 Quiconque est naïf, qu’il fasse un détour par ici ! A qui est dépourvu de raison, elle dit : 5 Venez, mangez de mon pain et buvez du vin que j’ai préparé ; 6 abandonnez la naïveté et vous vivrez, dirigez-vous dans la voie de l’intelligence ! 7 Qui instruit l’insolent s’attire le mépris, qui avertit le méchant reçoit un outrage. 8 N’avertis pas l’insolent, de peur qu’il ne te déteste ; avertis le sage, et il t’aimera. 9 Donne au sage, et il deviendra plus sage ; donne la connaissance au juste, et il augmentera son savoir. 10 Le début de la sagesse, c’est la crainte du Seigneur ; la connaissance des saints, c’est l’intelligence. 11 Car, par moi, tes jours se multiplieront, et des années de vie te seront ajoutées. 12 Si tu es sage, c’est pour toi-même que tu es sage ; si tu es insolent, c’est toi seul qui en supporteras les conséquences. 13 La femme stupide est frivole. Naïve, elle ne connaît rien. 14 Elle s’assied à l’entrée de sa maison, sur un siège, sur les hauteurs de la ville, 15 pour crier aux passants qui vont droit leur chemin : 16 Quiconque est naïf, qu’il fasse un détour par ici ! A qui est dépourvu de raison, elle dit : 17 L’eau dérobée est douce, le pain caché est agréable ! 18 Il ne sait pas que c’est là le lieu des ombres, que ses invités sont dans les profondeurs du séjour des morts.
