1 Quando Isbosete, filho de Saul, soube que Abner morrera em Hebrom, perdeu o ânimo, e todo o Israel ficou perturbado. 2 Isbosete, filho de Saul, contava com dois chefes de guerrilha; um deles se chamava Baaná, e o outro, Recabe, filhos de Rimom, o beerotita, dos filhos de Benjamim. Beerote era considerada parte de Benjamim. 3 Os beerotitas haviam fugido para Gitaim, onde habitam até o dia de hoje. 4 Jônatas, filho de Saul, tinha um filho deficiente dos pés. Ele tinha cinco anos de idade quando a notícia sobre Saul e Jônatas chegou de Jezreel. Sua ama o tomou e fugiu; e, na pressa da fuga, ele caiu e ficou aleijado. Ele se chamava Mefibosete. 5 Recabe e Baaná, os filhos de Rimom, o beerotita, foram à casa de Isbosete no calor do dia, quando ele estava deitado, ao meio-dia. 6 Entraram ali no interior da casa, como se viessem buscar trigo, e o feriram na barriga; depois, Recabe e Baaná, seu irmão, fugiram. 7 Eles haviam entrado na casa quando ele estava deitado na cama, no seu quarto de dormir; então o feriram e o mataram. Depois, cortaram-lhe a cabeça e a levaram, andando a noite toda pelo caminho da Arabá. 8 Assim levaram a cabeça de Isbosete a Davi em Hebrom e disseram ao rei: Aqui está a cabeça de Isbosete, filho de Saul, teu inimigo, que procurava a tua morte. Assim o SENHOR vingou hoje ao rei, meu senhor, de Saul e da sua descendência. 9 Mas Davi respondeu a Recabe e a Baaná, seu irmão, filhos de Rimom, o beerotita: Vive o SENHOR, que livrou a minha alma de toda a angústia! 10 Se, ao que me veio dizer: Saul foi morto, pensando que dava boas notícias, eu logo o apanhei e o matei em Ziclague, como recompensa pela notícia, 11 com muito mais razão, quando homens cruéis mataram um homem justo em sua casa, sobre a sua cama, não deveria eu requerer o seu sangue de vossas mãos e vos exterminar da terra? 12 Então Davi deu ordem aos seus servos, e eles os mataram e, cortando-lhes as mãos e os pés, os penduraram junto ao tanque em Hebrom. Mas pegaram a cabeça de Isbosete e a sepultaram no sepulcro de Abner, em Hebrom.
