1 Palavra do SENHOR contra Israel, por intermédio de Malaquias. 2 Eu sempre vos amei, diz o SENHOR. Mas vós perguntais: De que maneira nos tens amado? Por acaso não era Esaú irmão de Jacó?, diz o SENHOR. No entanto, amei Jacó 3 e rejeitei Esaú. Fiz dos seus montes uma desolação e dei sua herança aos chacais do deserto. 4 Ainda que Edom diga: Estamos arruinados, mas voltaremos e reconstruiremos as ruínas, o SENHOR dos Exércitos diz assim: Eles reconstruirão, mas eu demolirei. Serão chamados: Terra da Maldade, povo contra quem o SENHOR está irado para sempre. 5 E com os olhos o vereis e direis: O SENHOR é grande até mesmo além das fronteiras de Israel. 6 O filho honra o pai, e o servo, o seu senhor. Se eu sou pai, onde está a minha honra? Se eu sou senhor, onde está o temor de mim?, diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos a vós, sacerdotes, que desprezais o meu nome. E vós perguntais: Como temos desprezado o teu nome? 7 Ofereceis alimento impuro sobre o meu altar e ainda perguntais: Como temos te profanado? Quando dizeis que a mesa do SENHOR é desprezível. 8 Quando ofereceis em sacrifício um animal cego, isso não é errado? E quando ofereceis o animal aleijado ou doente, isso também não é errado? Ora, apresenta-o ao teu governador. Será que ele se agradará disso? Ele vos atenderá?, pergunta o SENHOR dos Exércitos. 9 Suplicai, agora, o favor de Deus, para que tenha compaixão de nós. Com esse tipo de oferta, será que ele vos atenderá?, pergunta o SENHOR dos Exércitos. 10 Ah, se houvesse entre vós alguém que fechasse as portas, para que não acendêsseis em vão o fogo do meu altar! Eu não tenho prazer em vós, nem aceitarei vossa oferta, diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos. 11 Mas o meu nome é grande entre as nações, do oriente ao ocidente; e em todo lugar oferecem ao meu nome incenso e uma oferta pura; porque o meu nome é grande entre as nações, diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos. 12 Mas vós o profanais, quando dizeis: A mesa do SENHOR é impura, e seu alimento é desprezível. 13 Afirmais também: Que canseira! E o desprezais, diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos. Trazeis como oferta o que foi roubado, o aleijado e o doente, e ainda quereis que eu aceite isso da vossa mão?, pergunta o SENHOR. 14 Maldito seja o enganador que, tendo animal macho sem defeito no seu rebanho, promete oferecê-lo, mas sacrifica ao SENHOR um animal defeituoso. Pois eu sou grande rei, e o meu nome é temível entre as nações, diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos.
