Nehemiah 1 (AS21)
1 Palavras de Neemias, filho de Hacalias: No mês de quisleu, no vigésimo ano, quando eu estava na cidade de Susã, 2 Hanani, um de meus irmãos, veio de Judá com mais alguns homens. Perguntei-lhes pelos judeus que voltaram, os que sobreviveram ao cativeiro, e a respeito de Jerusalém. 3 Eles me responderam: Os que sobreviveram ao cativeiro estão passando grande aflição e vergonha lá na província. Os muros de Jerusalém foram derrubados, e as portas da cidade, queimadas. 4 Depois de ouvir essas palavras, sentei-me e chorei. Lamentei por alguns dias; e continuei a jejuar e orar perante o Deus do céu. 5 Eu disse: Ó SENHOR, Deus do céu, Deus grande e temível, que cumpres a tua aliança e usas de misericórdia para com aqueles que te amam e obedecem aos teus mandamentos. 6 Os teus olhos estejam abertos e os teus ouvidos atentos para ouvires a oração do teu servo, que faço diante de ti, dia e noite, pelos israelitas, teus servos. Confesso os pecados que nós, os israelitas, temos cometido contra ti; sim, eu e a minha família pecamos. 7 Temos agido de forma perversa contra ti, e não temos obedecido aos teus mandamentos, nem aos estatutos e às leis que ordenaste a teu servo Moisés. 8 Lembra-te agora do que disseste a teu servo Moisés: Se fordes infiéis, eu vos espalharei entre os outros povos. 9 Mas, se voltardes para mim, e obedecerdes aos meus mandamentos e os praticardes, ainda que os vossos exilados estejam dispersos pelos lugares mais distantes debaixo do céu, de lá os ajuntarei e os trarei para o lugar que escolhi para estabelecer o meu nome. 10 Eles são os teus servos e o teu povo, que resgataste com o teu grande poder e com o teu braço forte. 11 Ó Senhor, que os teus ouvidos estejam atentos à oração deste teu servo, e à oração dos teus servos cujo prazer está em temer o teu nome. Faze com que teu servo seja bem-sucedido hoje, concedendo-lhe a benevolência deste homem. Nessa época, eu era copeiro do rei.
