Nehemiah 6 (AS21)
1 Quando Sambalate, Tobias e Gesém, o árabe, e o restante dos nossos inimigos souberam que eu tinha construído o muro e que nele já não havia brecha alguma, embora eu ainda não tivesse colocado as portas nos seus lugares, 2 Sambalate e Gesém mandaram dizer-me: Vem, vamos encontrar-nos num povoado da planície de Ono. Eles, porém, estavam planejando o mal contra mim. 3 Por isso, enviei-lhes mensageiros com a seguinte resposta: Estou empenhado numa grande obra e não posso descer. Por que eu deveria parar e deixar a obra para encontrar-me convosco? 4 Eles me mandaram essa mensagem quatro vezes, e todas as vezes lhes dei a mesma resposta. 5 Pela quinta vez, Sambalate enviou o seu homem de confiança com uma carta aberta na mão. 6 Na carta, estava escrito: Dizem entre as nações, e Gesém o confirma, que tu e os judeus planejais uma rebelião; por isso estás reconstruindo o muro. Dizem também que queres tornar-te rei deles 7 e que nomeaste profetas em Jerusalém para proclamarem a teu respeito: Há um rei em Judá! Essas coisas chegarão aos ouvidos do rei. Por isso, vem e vamos conversar. 8 Mandei dizer-lhe então: Nada do que dizes é verdade; é tudo invenção tua. 9 Pois todos eles tentavam atemorizar-nos, dizendo: Eles vão abandonar a obra; ela não será concluída. Então pedi a Deus: Fortalece as minhas mãos! 10 Depois, fui à casa de Semaías, filho de Delaías, filho de Meetabel, que se tinha trancado. E ele disse: Vamos nos reunir na casa de Deus, dentro do templo, a portas fechadas, pois virão matar-te. Sim, virão matar-te esta noite. 11 Mas eu respondi: Deveria fugir um homem como eu? Alguém como eu poderia entrar no templo para salvar a vida? De maneira nenhuma entrarei lá. 12 E percebi que não era Deus que o enviara; mas ele pronunciou essa profecia contra mim porque Tobias e Sambalate o haviam subornado. 13 Eles o subornaram para me atemorizar, a fim de que eu agisse assim e pecasse para que tivessem motivo pelo qual me pudessem difamar e desacreditar. 14 Lembra-te, meu Deus, do que fizeram Tobias e Sambalate, e também da profetisa Noádia, e dos demais profetas que tentaram atemorizar-me. 15 E o muro foi concluído no vigésimo quinto dia do mês de elul, em cinquenta e dois dias. 16 Quando os nossos inimigos souberam disso, todos os povos ao nosso redor ficaram atemorizados e muito abatidos, pois perceberam que tínhamos feito esta obra com o auxílio do nosso Deus. 17 Além disso, naqueles dias os nobres de Judá enviaram muitas cartas a Tobias, e Tobias lhes enviava as suas respostas. 18 Pois muitos em Judá estavam comprometidos com ele por juramento, porque era genro de Secanias, filho de Ara, e porque o seu filho Joanã tinha casado com a filha de Mesulão, filho de Berequias. 19 Também o elogiavam diante de mim, e contavam a ele o que eu dizia. E Tobias continuou a me mandar cartas para me atemorizar.
