1 1-2 Arons slægt, præsterne, blev opdelt i to afdelinger, som havde navn efter Arons sønner Eleazar og Itamar. Aron havde to sønner mere, Nadab og Abihu, men de døde før deres far og efterlod sig ingen børn.
