1 Wie Schnee im Sommer und wie Regen in der Ernte, so steht dem Toren keine Ehre zu. 2 Wie der Sperling hin und her flattert, wie die Schwalbe wegfliegt, so ist ein unverdienter Fluch: Er trifft nicht ein. 3 Die Peitsche dem Pferd, der Zaum dem Esel, und der Stock dem Rücken der Toren. 4 Antworte dem Toren nicht nach seiner Narrheit, damit nicht auch du ihm gleich wirst. 5 Antworte dem Toren nach seiner Narrheit, damit er nicht weise sei in seinen Augen. 6 Die Füße haut sich ab, Unheil trinkt, wer Bestellungen durch einen Toren ausrichten lässt. 7 Schlaff hängen die Beine des Lahmen herab: So ist ein Spruch im Mund der Toren. 8 Wie das Binden eines Steins in eine Schleuder, so ist, wer einem Toren Ehre erweist. 9 Ein Dorn, der in die Hand eines Betrunkenen gerät: So ist ein Spruch im Mund der Toren. 10 Ein Schütze, der alles verwundet: So ist, wer den Toren anwirbt und die Vorübergehenden anwirbt. 11 Wie ein Hund, der zurückkehrt zu seinem Gespei: So ist ein Tor, der seine Narrheit wiederholt. 12 Siehst du einen Mann, der in seinen Augen weise ist – für einen Toren ist mehr Hoffnung als für ihn. 13 Der Faule spricht: Der Brüller ist auf dem Weg, ein Löwe inmitten der Straßen. 14 Die Tür dreht sich in ihrer Angel: so der Faule auf seinem Bett. 15 Hat der Faule seine Hand in die Schüssel gesteckt, beschwerlich wird es ihm, sie zu seinem Mund zurückzubringen. 16 Der Faule ist weiser in seinen Augen als sieben, die verständig antworten. 17 Der ergreift einen Hund bei den Ohren, wer vorbeigehend sich über einen Streit ereifert, der ihn nichts angeht. 18 Wie ein Wahnsinniger, der Brandgeschosse, Pfeile und Tod schleudert: 19 so ist ein Mann, der seinen Nächsten betrügt und spricht: Habe ich nicht nur einen Scherz gemacht? 20 Wo es an Holz fehlt, erlischt das Feuer; und wo kein Ohrenbläser ist, hört der Zank auf. 21 Kohle zur Glut und Holz zum Feuer, und ein zänkischer Mann zum Schüren des Streites. 22 Die Worte des Ohrenbläsers sind wie Leckerbissen, und sie dringen hinab in das Innerste des Leibes. 23 Ein Tongeschirr, das mit Silberglasur überzogen ist: so sind feurige Lippen und ein böses Herz. 24 Der Hasser verstellt sich mit seinen Lippen, aber in seinem Innern hegt er Trug. 25 Wenn er seine Stimme lieblich macht, traue ihm nicht; denn sieben Gräuel sind in seinem Herzen. 26 Versteckt sich der Hass in Trug, seine Bosheit wird sich in der Versammlung enthüllen. 27 Wer eine Grube gräbt, fällt hinein; und wer einen Stein wälzt, auf den kehrt er zurück. 28 Eine Lügenzunge hasst diejenigen, die sie zermalmt; und ein glatter Mund bereitet Sturz.
