1 Or, sache ceci, que dans les derniers jours il viendra des temps difficiles ; 2 car les hommes seront égoïstes, avares, vains, orgueilleux, blasphémateurs, désobéissants à leurs parents, ingrats, profanes, 3 sans affection naturelle, sans fidélité, calomniateurs, incontinents, cruels, ennemis des gens de bien, 4 traîtres, emportés, enflés d'orgueil, aimant les voluptés plus que Dieu, 5 ayant l'apparence de la piété, mais en ayant renié la force. Eloigne-toi aussi de ces gens-là. 6 De ce nombre sont ceux qui s'introduisent dans les maisons, et qui captivent des femmes à l'esprit faible, chargées de péchés, possédées de diverses convoitises, 7 qui apprennent toujours, et qui ne peuvent jamais parvenir à la connaissance de la vérité. 8 Et comme Jannès et Jambrès résistèrent à Moïse, ceux-ci de même résistent à la vérité ; hommes corrompus d'entendement, et réprouvés quant à la foi. 9 Mais ils ne feront pas de plus grands progrès ; car leur folie sera évidente pour tous, comme le fut aussi celle de ces hommes-là. 10 Pour toi, tu as suivi mon enseignement, ma conduite, mon dessein, ma foi, ma longanimité, ma charité, ma patience, 11 mes persécutions, mes souffrances, qui me sont arrivées à Antioche, à Iconie et à Lystre ; quelles persécutions j'ai souffertes, et le Seigneur m'a délivré de toutes. 12 Mais aussi tous ceux qui veulent vivre selon la piété en Jésus-Christ seront persécutés. 13 Mais les hommes méchants et les imposteurs iront en empirant, séduisant, et étant séduits. 14 Mais toi, demeure ferme dans les choses que tu as apprises, et qui t'ont été confiées, sachant de qui tu les as ; 15 et que dès ta tendre enfance tu connais les saintes lettres, qui peuvent te rendre sage pour le salut, par la foi qui est en Jésus-Christ. 16 Toute Ecriture est inspirée de Dieu, et utile pour enseigner, pour convaincre, pour corriger, pour instruire dans la justice ; 17 afin que l'homme de Dieu soit accompli, et parfaitement propre pour toute bonne œuvre.
