Isaiah 34 (LBA)
1 Approchez, nations, pour écouter ; peuples, soyez attentifs ! Que la terre écoute et tout ce qu'elle renferme, le monde et tout ce qu'il produit. 2 Car le courroux de l'Eternel est sur toutes les nations et sa fureur contre toute leur armée ; il les a mises à l'interdit, livrées à la tuerie. 3 Leurs blessés resteront étendus ; leurs cadavres exhaleront l'infection ; et les montagnes découleront de leur sang. 4 Toute l'armée des cieux sera réduite en poussière ; les cieux seront roulés comme un livre ; toute leur armée tombera, comme tombe du cep la feuille morte et du figuier la feuille flétrie. 5 Car mon épée s'est enivrée dans les cieux ; voici, elle descend sur Edom, sur le peuple que j'ai mis à l'interdit, pour le juger. 6 L'épée de l'Eternel est pleine de sang, ruisselante de graisse, du sang des agneaux et des boucs, de la graisse des reins des béliers ; car l'Eternel fait un sacrifice en Botsra et une grande tuerie au pays d'Edom. 7 Avec eux tombent les buffles, et les bœufs avec les taureaux ; la terre est enivrée de sang, et la poussière ruisselle de graisse. 8 Car il y a un jour de vengeance pour l'Eternel, une année de revanche pour la cause de Sion. 9 Les torrents d'Edom seront changés en poix et sa poussière en soufre ; et sa terre deviendra de la poix brûlante ; 10 ni la nuit ni le jour elle ne s'éteindra ; sa fumée montera éternellement ; d'âge en âge elle restera déserte ; à tout jamais personne n'y passera. 11 Le pélican et le hérisson en prendront possession ; le hibou et le corbeau y habiteront ; et on y étendra un cordeau de destruction et un niveau de désolation. 12 Ses nobles, il n'y en a plus pour proclamer un roi ; et c'en est fait de tous ses princes. 13 Les épines pousseront dans ses palais, les orties et les ronces dans ses forteresses ; ce sera un repaire de chacals, un parc pour les autruches, 14 un rendez-vous de chats et de chiens sauvages ; les satyres s'y rencontreront ; c'est là que le spectre des nuits fera sa demeure et trouvera son lieu de repos ; 15 là le serpent-dard viendra faire son nid, pondra ses œufs, les fera éclore et réunira ses petits sous son ombre ; c'est là que les vautours se rassembleront tous. 16 Cherchez dans le livre de l'Eternel, et lisez : pas un d'eux ne manque ; ni l'un ni l'autre ne fait défaut ; car c'est sa bouche qui l'a ordonné et son souffle qui les a rassemblés ; 17 c'est lui qui a jeté le sort pour eux, et c'est sa main qui leur a partagé le pays au cordeau ; ils le posséderont à toujours ; ils y habiteront d'âge en âge.
