1 Et Moïse parla aux chefs des tribus des fils d'Israël, en disant : Voici ce que l'Eternel ordonne : 2 Si un homme fait un vœu à l'Eternel, ou s'il fait un serment en se liant soi-même par un engagement, il ne violera point sa parole ; tout ce qui est sorti de sa bouche, il l'exécutera. 3 Et si une femme fait un vœu à l'Eternel, et qu'elle se lie par un engagement, dans la maison de son père, pendant sa jeunesse, 4 et que son père, apprenant son vœu et l'engagement par lequel elle s'est liée elle-même, garde le silence envers elle, tous ses vœux seront valables et tout engagement par lequel elle se sera liée elle-même sera valable ; 5 mais si son père la désavoue le jour où il l'apprend, tous ses vœux et tous les engagements par lesquels elle se sera liée elle-même seront sans valeur ; et l'Eternel lui pardonnera, parce que son père l'aura désavouée. 6 Si, quand elle se marie, elle est engagée par des vœux ou liée par une parole échappée de ses lèvres 7 et que son mari l'apprenne, s'il garde le silence envers elle, le jour où il l'apprendra, ses vœux seront valables et les engagements par lesquels elle se sera liée elle-même seront valables ; 8 mais si, le jour où il l'apprendra, son mari la désavoue, il annule le vœu qu'elle a fait et la parole échappée de ses lèvres, qui la lie ; et l'Eternel lui pardonnera. 9 Quant au vœu d'une veuve ou d'une femme répudiée, et à tout engagement par lequel elle s'est liée, il sera valable pour elle. 10 Si c'est dans la maison de son mari qu'elle a fait un vœu ou qu'elle a pris un engagement par serment, 11 et que son mari, l'apprenant, garde le silence envers elle et ne la désavoue pas, tous ses vœux seront valables et tous les engagements par lesquels elle se sera liée seront valables ; 12 mais si son mari les annule, le jour où il l'apprendra, tout vœu et tout ce qui est sorti de ses lèvres, en fait de vœux ou d'engagements, sera sans valeur ; son mari les a annulés ; et l'Eternel lui pardonnera. 13 Tout vœu et tout serment, par lequel elle s'engage à mortifier sa personne, son mari peut le ratifier et son mari peut l'annuler. 14 S'il garde jusqu'à un autre jour le silence envers elle, il ratifie tous les vœux ou tous les engagements par lesquels elle s'est liée ; il les ratifie parce qu'il a gardé le silence envers elle le jour où il en a eu connaissance. 15 Et s'il les annule après qu'il en a eu connaissance, il se charge de la faute de sa femme. 16 Tels sont les statuts que l'Eternel prescrivit à Moïse, concernant un mari et sa femme, un père et sa fille, pendant qu'elle est dans la maison de son père, dans sa jeunesse.
