1 Le fils sage [est le produit] des corrections de son père, Mais le moqueur n'écoute pas la réprimande. 2 Par le fruit de sa bouche, un homme jouit du bien, Mais le désir des perfides, c'est la violence. 3 Qui veille sur sa bouche, garde son âme ; Mais qui ouvre [trop] ses lèvres, court à sa ruine. 4 L'âme des paresseux a des désirs et n'obtient rien, Mais l'âme des diligents sera rassasiée. 5 Le juste hait tout ce qui est trompeur, Mais le méchant diffame et outrage. 6 La justice protège l'homme intègre en ses voies, Mais la méchanceté abat le pécheur. 7 Tel fait le riche, qui n'a rien du tout ; Tel fait le pauvre, qui a de grands biens. 8 La richesse d'un homme est la rançon de sa vie, Mais le pauvre n'entend jamais de menaces. 9 La lumière des justes est joyeuse, Mais le flambeau des méchants s'éteint. 10 De l'orgueil ne sort que disputes, Mais la sagesse est avec ceux qui reçoivent les conseils. 11 Mal acquise, la richesse diminue ; Mais qui amasse peu à peu, l'augmente. 12 Espoir différé rend le cœur malade, Mais désir réalisé est un arbre de vie. 13 Qui méprise la parole, en devient le débiteur ; Mais qui respecte le précepte, en est récompensé. 14 L'enseignement du sage est une source de vie, Qui détourne des pièges de la mort. 15 Une raison saine procure la faveur, Mais la voie des perfides est rude. 16 Tout homme avisé agit avec intelligence, Mais l'insensé étale sa sottise. 17 Le messager méchant tombe dans le malheur, Mais l'envoyé fidèle apporte la guérison. 18 Misère et honte à qui repousse l'instruction ! Mais qui reçoit la réprimande est honoré. 19 Un désir réalisé est doux à l'âme, Et l'horreur de l'insensé, c'est de s'éloigner du mal. 20 Qui fréquente les sages devient sage, Et qui fraie avec les insensés s'en trouve mal. 21 Le malheur poursuit les pécheurs, Mais le bonheur est la récompense des justes. 22 L'homme de bien laisse un héritage aux enfants de ses enfants, Mais les biens du pécheur sont réservés au juste. 23 Le champ défriché par le pauvre produit en abondance, Mais tel homme est emporté, faute de justice. 24 Qui épargne la verge, hait son fils ; Qui l'aime, le corrige de bonne heure. 25 Le juste mange et se rassasie, Mais le ventre des méchants éprouve la disette.
