Isaiah 27 (NBS)
1 En ce jour-là, le Seigneur fera rendre des comptes, avec son épée acérée, grande et puissante, à Léviathan, le serpent fuyard, à Léviathan, le serpent tortueux, et il tuera le dragon qui est dans la mer. 2 En ce jour-là, entonnez un chœur pour la vigne au vin capiteux : 3 moi, le Seigneur (YHWH), j’en suis le gardien, je l’arrose à chaque instant ; de peur qu’on ne l’attaque, nuit et jour je la garde. 4 Il n’y a pas en moi de colère. Ah ! si je pouvais combattre des ronces et des épines ! Je marcherais sur elles, je les brûlerais toutes ensemble, 5 à moins qu’on ne me prenne pour refuge, qu’on ne fasse la paix avec moi, qu’on ne fasse avec moi la paix ! 6 Dans l’avenir, que Jacob prenne racine : Israël poussera des bourgeons et des fleurs et remplira le monde de ses produits. 7 L’a-t-il frappé comme il a frappé ceux qui le frappaient ? L’a-t-il tué comme il a tué ceux qu’il tue ? 8 C’est en la poussant, en la renvoyant, que tu as mené son procès : il les a chassés par son souffle violent, un jour de vent d’est. 9 C’est ainsi que la faute de Jacob est expiée, et voici la conséquence du pardon de son péché : il rend toutes les pierres des autels pareilles à des pierres de chaux réduites en poussière ; les poteaux cultuels (les ashéras) et les brasiers à encens ne se relèveront plus. 10 Car la ville forte est solitaire, c’est un domaine délaissé et abandonné comme le désert ; le taurillon vient y paître, il s’y couche et il en achève les branchages. 11 Quand les rameaux se dessèchent, on les brise ; des femmes viennent y mettre le feu. Car ce n’est pas un peuple intelligent : aussi celui qui le fait n’a pas compassion de lui, celui qui le façonne ne lui fait pas grâce. 12 En ce jour-là, le Seigneur secouera les arbres, depuis le cours du Fleuve jusqu’à l’oued d’Egypte ; et vous serez ramassés un par un, Israélites ! 13 En ce jour-là, on sonnera d’une grande trompe ; alors viendront ceux qui étaient perdus en Assyrie, ceux qui étaient dispersés en Egypte ; ils se prosterneront devant le Seigneur à la montagne sacrée, à Jérusalem.
