1 Tu, porém, meu filho, fortifica-te na graça que há em Cristo Jesus. 2 O que ouviste de mim, diante de muitas testemunhas, transmite a homens fiéis e aptos para também ensinarem a outros. 3 Sofre comigo como bom soldado de Cristo Jesus. 4 Nenhum soldado em serviço se envolve com assuntos da vida civil, pois deseja agradar àquele que o alistou para a guerra. 5 E se um atleta competir nos jogos públicos, não será coroado se não cumprir o regulamento. 6 O agricultor que trabalha deve ser o primeiro a se beneficiar dos frutos colhidos. 7 Medita no que estou te dizendo, pois o Senhor te fará entender tudo. 8 Lembra-te de Jesus Cristo, ressurreto dentre os mortos, descendente de Davi, de acordo com o meu evangelho, 9 pelo qual sofro a ponto de ser preso como criminoso; mas a palavra de Deus não está presa. 10 Por isso, suporto todas as coisas por amor dos eleitos, para que também eles alcancem a salvação que há em Cristo Jesus com glória eterna. 11 Esta palavra é digna de crédito: Se já morremos com ele, também com ele viveremos; 12 se perseveramos, com ele também reinaremos; se o negamos, ele também nos negará; 13 se somos infiéis, ele permanece fiel; pois não pode negar a si mesmo. 14 Lembra-lhes essas coisas, exortando-os diante de Deus que não discutam por causa de palavras que não têm utilidade alguma, senão a de prejudicar os ouvintes. 15 Procura apresentar-te aprovado diante de Deus, como obreiro que não tem de que se envergonhar, que maneja bem a palavra da verdade. 16 Mas evita as conversas vãs e profanas, pois os que agem assim promovem ainda mais a impiedade, 17 e as suas palavras se alastrarão como gangrena; entre estes se encontram Himeneu e Fileto. 18 Eles se desviaram da verdade, afirmando que a ressurreição já aconteceu, e com isso perverteram a fé em alguns. 19 Todavia, o firme fundamento de Deus permanece e tem este selo: O Senhor conhece os seus, e: Aparte-se da injustiça todo aquele que profere o nome do Senhor. 20 Numa casa que é grande, não há somente vasos de ouro e de prata, mas também de madeira e de barro; uns, na verdade, para uso honroso, outros, porém, para uso desonroso. 21 Se alguém se purificar dessas coisas, será vaso para honra, santificado e útil ao Senhor, preparado para toda boa obra. 22 Foge também das paixões da juventude e segue a justiça, a fé, o amor e a paz com os que invocam o Senhor de coração puro. 23 E rejeita as questões tolas e inúteis, sabendo que geram discussões. 24 Ao servo do Senhor não convém discutir, mas, pelo contrário, deve ser amável para com todos, apto para ensinar, paciente, 25 corrigindo com mansidão os que resistem, na esperança de que Deus lhes conceda o arrependimento para conhecerem plenamente a verdade, 26 e que se libertem da armadilha do Diabo, por quem haviam sido presos para cumprirem a sua vontade.
