1 Jacó levantou os olhos e viu que Esaú estava vindo com quatrocentos homens. Então repartiu os filhos entre Leia, Raquel e as duas servas. 2 Pôs as servas e seus filhos na frente, depois Leia e seus filhos, e Raquel e José por último. 3 Ele mesmo passou à frente deles e inclinou-se ao chão sete vezes, até chegar perto de seu irmão. 4 Então Esaú correu ao seu encontro, abraçou-o, lançou-se ao pescoço dele e o beijou; e eles choraram. 5 Quando Esaú levantou os olhos, viu as mulheres e os meninos e perguntou: Quem são estes contigo? Jacó respondeu: Os filhos que Deus bondosamente deu a teu servo. 6 Então as servas se aproximaram, elas e seus filhos, e inclinaram-se. 7 Aproximaram-se também Leia e seus filhos, e inclinaram-se; depois José e Raquel se aproximaram e se inclinaram. 8 E Esaú perguntou: Que pretendes com toda esta manada que encontrei? Jacó respondeu: Achar favor aos olhos de meu senhor. 9 Mas Esaú disse: Tenho muito, meu irmão; fica com o que tens. 10 Porém Jacó respondeu: Não! Se agora tenho achado favor aos teus olhos, aceita o presente da minha mão; porque ver o teu rosto foi como ter visto o rosto de Deus, e tu me recebeste com agrado. 11 Peço-te que aceites o presente que te trouxe; porque Deus tem sido bondoso para comigo e tenho de tudo. E tanto insistiu, que ele o aceitou. 12 Então Esaú disse: Vamos seguir caminho; eu irei junto contigo. 13 Respondeu-lhe Jacó: Meu senhor sabe que estes filhos são fracos e que tenho comigo ovelhas e vacas de leite; se forem obrigadas a caminhar demais por um só dia, todo o rebanho morrerá. 14 O meu senhor pode ir adiante de seu servo; e eu seguirei, conduzindo-os com calma, conforme o passo do gado à minha frente, e segundo o passo dos meninos, até que chegue a meu senhor em Seir. 15 Respondeu Esaú: Permite ao menos que eu deixe contigo alguns da minha gente. Jacó perguntou: Para quê? Bastou-me ter achado favor aos olhos de meu senhor. 16 Assim, naquele dia, Esaú voltou pelo seu caminho para Seir. 17 Porém Jacó partiu para Sucote e edificou para si uma casa, e fez abrigos para o seu gado; por isso o lugar se chama Sucote. 18 Quando voltava de Padã-Arã, Jacó chegou em paz à cidade de Siquém, que está na terra de Canaã, e armou sua tenda diante da cidade. 19 E comprou por cem peças de prata a parte do campo dos filhos de Hamor, pai de Siquém, onde havia armado sua tenda. 20 Levantou ali um altar e deu-lhe o nome de El-Eloe-Israel.
