Joshua 3 (AS21)
1 Josué levantou-se de madrugada e, partindo de Sitim com todos os israelitas, chegou ao Jordão; e ficaram ali, antes de atravessá-lo. 2 E sucedeu, ao fim de três dias, que os oficiais passaram pelo meio do acampamento, 3 e ordenaram ao povo: Quando virdes a arca da aliança do SENHOR, vosso Deus, sendo levada pelos sacerdotes levitas, partireis do vosso lugar e a seguireis. 4 Contudo, conservai entre vós e ela uma distância de dois mil côvados, e não vos aproximeis dela. Assim sabereis o caminho pelo qual haveis de ir, porque por esse caminho nunca passastes. 5 E Josué disse ao povo: Santificai-vos, porque amanhã o SENHOR fará maravilhas no meio de vós. 6 E Josué falou aos sacerdotes: Levantai a arca da aliança e passai adiante do povo. Eles levantaram a arca da aliança e foram andando adiante do povo. 7 Então o SENHOR disse a Josué: Hoje começarei a honrar-te perante os olhos de todo o Israel, para que saibam que, assim como estive com Moisés, estarei contigo. 8 E tu ordenarás aos sacerdotes que levam a arca da aliança: Quando chegardes à beira das águas do Jordão, aí parareis. 9 Então Josué disse aos israelitas: Aproximai-vos e ouvi as palavras do SENHOR, vosso Deus. 10 E acrescentou: Desse modo sabereis que o Deus vivo está no meio de vós e que certamente expulsará de diante de vós os cananeus, os heteus, os heveus, os perizeus, os girgaseus, os amorreus e os jebuseus. 11 Atenção! A arca da aliança do SENHOR de toda a terra passará adiante de vós para o meio do Jordão. 12 Tomai agora doze homens das tribos de Israel, um homem de cada tribo. 13 Assim que as plantas dos pés dos sacerdotes que levam a arca do SENHOR, o SENHOR de toda a terra, pisarem nas águas do Jordão, elas serão interrompidas, isto é, as águas que descem pararão e ficarão amontoadas. 14 Quando o povo partiu das suas tendas para atravessar o Jordão, os sacerdotes foram levando a arca da aliança adiante do povo, 15 e quando os que levavam a arca chegaram ao Jordão, e os seus pés entraram nas águas (o Jordão transbordava em todas as suas margens durante todos os dias da colheita), 16 as águas que desciam pararam e ficaram amontoadas, muito longe, à altura de Adã, cidade que está junto a Zaretã; e as águas que desciam ao mar da Arabá, que é o mar Salgado, foram de todo interrompidas. Então o povo passou bem em frente de Jericó. 17 Os sacerdotes que levavam a arca da aliança do SENHOR pararam em seco no meio do Jordão, e todo o Israel fez a travessia a pé enxuto, até que todo o povo acabou de atravessar o Jordão.
