1 Chúa Cứu Thế đã có từ ban đầu, từ trước khi sáng tạo vũ trụ, thế mà chính mắt chúng tôi đã được hân hạnh thấy Chúa, chính tai chúng tôi đã nghe Chúa dạy và tay tôi đã rờ Chúa. Ngài ở với Chúa Cha và đã xuống đời, sống với chúng tôi. 3 Một lần nữa, tôi xin nhắc lại, chúng tôi đang kể cho anh chị em những điều mắt thấy tai nghe tường tận, để anh chị em có thể cùng chúng tôi vui hưởng mối tương giao với Chúa Cha và Con Ngài là Chúa Cứu Thế. 4 Chúng tôi viết cho anh chị em những điều ấy để niềm vui chung của chúng ta được hoàn toàn. 5 Đây là thông điệp Đức Chúa Trời giao cho chúng tôi để truyền bá cho anh chị em: Đức Chúa Trời là ánh sáng, trong Ngài không có chút bóng tối nào. 6 Vậy nếu ai nói mình thân thiết với Ngài, mà lại sống trong bóng tối là người nói dối và không làm theo chân lý. 7 Nếu chúng ta sống trong ánh sáng như Đức Chúa Trời, chúng ta sẽ tương giao với nhau, và máu Chúa Giê-xu, Con Ngài tẩy sạch tất cả tội lỗi chúng ta. 8 Nếu chúng ta chối tội là chúng ta tự lừa dối và không chịu nhìn nhận sự thật. 9 Nhưng nếu chúng ta xưng tội với Chúa, Ngài sẽ giữ lời hứa tha thứ chúng ta và tẩy sạch tất cả lỗi lầm chúng ta, đúng theo bản tính công chính của Ngài. 10 Nếu chúng ta bảo mình vô tội, là cho Đức Chúa Trời nói dối, và lời Ngài không ở trong chúng ta.
