1 Et godt ry er bedre end rigdom,at blive værdsat er bedre end at eje sølv og guld. 2 Rig og fattig har noget tilfælles:Det er Herren, der har skabt dem begge. 3 Den fornuftige ser faren på forhånd og undgår den,en tåbe vader videre og må tage konsekvensen. 4 Ydmyghed og ærefrygt for Herrengiver rigdom, respekt og et godt liv. 5 Bedragerens vej er fuld af fælder og forhindringer,de, der har livet kært, holder sig væk. 6 Lær dine børn at træffe rette valg,så vil de gøre det, så længe de lever. 7 Den rige har magt over den fattige,og udlåneren bestemmer over den, der låner. 8 Den ondskabsfulde tyran bliver straffet,hans terrorregime får ende. 9 Gavmilde mennesker velsignes,for de deler deres mad med de fattige. 10 Jag spotteren bort, så får ufreden ende,skænderier og fornærmelser hører op. 11 Kongen er ven med dem, der er oprigtigeog taler barmhjertige ord. 12 Herren værner om sandheden,og gendriver løgnernes ord. 13 Den dovne siger: „Hvis jeg går ud på gaden,bliver jeg måske ædt af en løve!” 14 En utro kvindes ord er besnærende,den, som Herren vil straffe, går i fælden. 15 Det er naturligt for et barn at gøre tåbelige ting,men konsekvent tilrettevisning hjælper på sagen. 16 De, der udnytter de magtesløse til egen fordeleller bestikker dem, der har magt, skal ende i fattigdom. 17 Lyt til de vises ord og gem dem i dit hjerte, 18 så vil du glæde dig over at kunne huske dem og give dem videre til andre. 19 Jeg lærer dig det her i dag, for at du skal sætte din lid til Herren. 20 Jeg har nedskrevet 30 visdomsord, som skal vejlede dig og give dig kundskab. 21 De vil hjælpe dig til at forstå, hvad der er sandt og ret at gøre, så du kan svare godt for dig, når du bliver spurgt. 22 Angrib ikke de svage, fordi de er magtesløse,undertryk dem ikke i retssager, 23 for Herren selv vil forsvare demog straffe dem, der udnytter deres svaghed. 24 Bliv ikke ven med dem, der altid er vrede,hold dig fra hidsige mennesker, 25 ellers risikerer du at gøre som demog at ende i store problemer. 26 Stil ikke kaution for en andens gæld,lad være at love, at du nok skal betale. 27 Du risikerer at miste alle dine penge,dine møbler og alt, hvad du har. 28 Flyt ikke de gamle markskel,som går tilbage til dine forfædres tid. 29 De, der gør et fremragende stykke arbejde,kan forvente at få en høj stilling.
