Proverbs 22 (LBA)
1 La bonne réputation vaut mieux que de grandes richesses, Et la grâce est meilleure que l'or et que l'argent. 2 Riche et pauvre se rencontrent ; C'est l'Eternel qui les a faits tous deux. 3 L'homme avisé voit venir le mal et se cache ; Les simples passent outre et en portent la peine. 4 La récompense de l'humilité [et] de la crainte de l'Eternel, C'est la richesse, l'honneur et la vie. 5 Des épines, des filets sont sur la voie du pervers ; Qui garde son âme s'en tiendra éloigné. 6 Forme le jeune enfant selon la voie qu'il doit suivre ; Même quand il sera devenu vieux, il n'en déviera pas. 7 Le riche domine sur les pauvres ; Qui emprunte est esclave de qui prête. 8 Qui sème le mal moissonnera la ruine, Et la verge de sa fureur prendra fin. 9 L'homme bienveillant sera béni, Parce qu'il a donné de son pain au pauvre. 10 Chasse le moqueur, et la querelle prendra fin ; Les contestations et les opprobres cesseront. 11 Celui qui aime la pureté du cœur, Celui qui parle avec grâce, a le roi pour ami. 12 Les yeux de l'Eternel protègent l'homme intelligent, Mais il déjoue les propos du perfide. 13 Le paresseux dit : Il y a un lion là dehors ! Je serais tué dans les rues ! 14 La bouche des étrangères est une fosse profonde ; Celui contre qui l'Eternel est courroucé y tombera. 15 La sottise est attachée au cœur de l'enfant ; La verge de la correction l'en éloignera. 16 Qui opprime le pauvre l'enrichit, Mais qui donne au riche l'appauvrit. 17 Incline ton oreille et écoute les paroles des sages ; Applique ton cœur à ma science, 18 Car il est bon que tu les gardes dans ton sein, Et qu'elles demeurent toutes continuellement sur tes lèvres. 19 Pour que ta confiance soit en l'Eternel, Je vais t'instruire aujourd'hui, toi aussi. 20 N'ai-je pas, dès longtemps, mis par écrit pour toi Des conseils et [des paroles de] science, 21 Pour t'instruire dans la vérité et la fidélité Afin que tu puisses rendre un compte juste à ceux qui t'envoient. 22 Ne pille pas le pauvre parce qu'il est pauvre ; N'opprime pas le malheureux à la porte, 23 Car l'Eternel prendra leur cause en main Et il dépouillera de la vie ceux qui les dépouillent. 24 Ne fraie pas avec l'homme colère Et ne va pas avec l'homme emporté, 25 De crainte que tu ne t'habitues à ses voies Et que tu n'y trouves un piège pour ton âme. 26 Ne sois pas de ceux qui se portent garants, Qui cautionnent pour des dettes. 27 Si tu n'as pas de quoi payer, Voudrais-tu qu'on t'enlevât ton lit ? 28 Ne déplace pas la borne ancienne Que tes pères ont posée. 29 As-tu vu un homme habile en son état ? Il se tient auprès des rois ; Il ne se tient pas auprès des gens obscurs.
