1 Min søn, lyt til din fars formaninger,hør godt efter, så du kan blive klogere, 2 for jeg giver dig mange gode råd.Vig ikke fra mine retningslinier. 3 Jeg har jo selv været ung engang,min mors øjesten og min fars stolthed. 4 Min far indprentede mig dengang:„Hvis du følger de råd, jeg giver dig,vil du få et langt og lykkeligt liv. 5 Stræb efter visdom og søg efter indsigt,husk på mine ord og gør, som jeg siger. 6 Vig ikke fra visdommen, for den vil beskytte dig.Elsker du visdom, vil den værne om dig. 7 Visdom er det vigtigste, du kan vinde.Du skal tilegne dig dømmekraft for enhver pris. 8 Ærer du visdom, vil du selv blive æret.Agter du visdom, vil du selv blive agtet. 9 Den vil sætte en krone på dit hoved,belønne dig med en sejrskrans.” 10 Min søn, hør på mig og gør, hvad jeg siger,så får du et langt og lykkeligt liv. 11 Jeg viser dig visdommens vejog leder dig ad de rette stier. 12 På visdommens vej snubler du ikke,på retfærdighedens vej vil du ikke falde. 13 Hold fast ved mit råd og slip det ikke,for mine ord vil føre dig sikkert gennem livet. 14 Slå ikke følge med onde mennesker,drej ikke ind på synderes vej. 15 Hold dig langt væk fra ondskabens vej.Vend dig bort og gå forbi. 16 De onde får ingen ro, før de har forbrudt sig,sover ikke, før de har bragt nogen til fald. 17 De lever af ondskab, som var det brød,og nyder vold, som var det vin. 18 De, der følger Guds vej, ser hans lys,og det vokser og vokser, som tiden går. 19 Men den vej, de onde følger, ligger i mørke,de ved ikke, hvad de falder over. 20 Min søn, lyt til mine ord,hør godt efter, hvad jeg siger. 21 Hold godt fast ved dem,og lad dem slå rod i dit hjerte, 22 for de giver liv til alle, som følger dem,de giver sundhed til krop og sjæl. 23 Pas på dine tanker og motiver,for det er dem, der former dit liv. 24 Hold din tunge fra falsk tale,lad ingen løgn komme over dine læber. 25 Hav målet for øje, hvor du end går,lad være med at se til siden. 26 Vælg den rette vej,og du vil opleve, at alt går godt. 27 Bøj ikke af til højre eller venstre,hold dig fra alt, hvad der er ondt.
