1 Ecoutez, mes fils, l'instruction d'un père ; Soyez attentifs, pour acquérir du discernement. 2 Car je vous donne une bonne doctrine ; N'abandonnez point mes enseignements. 3 Car j'ai été, moi aussi, un fils devant mon père, Un enfant tendre et unique auprès de ma mère. 4 Il m'a instruit et m'a dit : Que ton cœur retienne mes paroles ! Observe mes préceptes, et tu vivras. 5 Acquiers la sagesse ; acquiers l'intelligence ! Ne l'oublie pas et ne t'écarte pas des paroles de ma bouche. 6 Ne l'abandonne pas, et elle te gardera ; Aime-la, et elle te protégera. 7 Le commencement de la sagesse, c'est : Acquiers la sagesse ! Acquiers l'intelligence au prix de tout ton avoir. 8 Exalte-la, et elle t'élèvera ; Elle fera ta gloire, si tu l'embrasses. 9 Elle placera sur ta tête une couronne gracieuse Elle te fera don d'un diadème magnifique. 10 Ecoute, mon fils, et reçois mes paroles ; Les années de ta vie en seront multipliées. 11 C'est la voie de la sagesse que je te montre ; Je te fais marcher dans les sentiers de la droiture 12 Quand tu marcheras, tes pas ne seront pas gênés ; Si tu cours, tu ne trébucheras pas. 13 Saisis l'instruction, ne la lâche pas ! Garde-la, car elle est ta vie. 14 Ne marche pas dans la voie des méchants ; Ne t'avance pas sur le chemin des hommes mauvais. 15 Evite-le ! N'y passe pas ! Eloigne-t-en et passe outre ! 16 Car ils ne dormiraient pas, s'ils n'avaient fait du mal ; Le sommeil leur serait ravi, s'ils n'avaient fait tomber quelqu'un. 17 Car ils se nourrissent du pain de la perversité, Ils boivent le vin de la violence. 18 Le sentier des justes est comme la lumière resplendissante, Qui va grandissant jusqu'au plein jour. 19 La voie des méchants est comme l'obscurité ; Ils ne voient pas ce qui les fera trébucher. 20 Mon fils, sois attentif à mes paroles, Incline tes oreilles à mes discours. 21 Qu'ils ne s'éloignent pas de tes yeux ; Garde-les au fond de ton cœur. 22 Car ils sont la vie de ceux qui les trouvent Et la santé de leur corps tout entier. 23 Garde ton cœur plus que tout ce qui se garde, Car c'est de lui que procèdent les sources de la vie. 24 Ecarte de toi la fausseté de la bouche ; Eloigne de toi la fourberie des lèvres ! 25 Que tes yeux regardent droit devant toi, Et que tes paupières se dirigent droit en avant ! 26 Aplanis le sentier de ton pied ; Et que toutes tes voies soient assurées ! 27 Ne t'écarte ni à droite, ni à gauche ; Détourne ton pied du mal !
