1 Und Hiob fuhr fort, seinen Spruch anzuheben, und sprach: 2 O dass ich wäre wie in den Monden der Vorzeit, wie in den Tagen, da Gott mich bewahrte, 3 als seine Leuchte über meinem Haupt schien und ich bei seinem Licht durch die Finsternis wandelte; 4 wie ich war in den Tagen meiner Reife, als das Vertrauen Gottes über meinem Zelt waltete, 5 als der Allmächtige noch mit mir war, meine Knaben rings um mich her; 6 als meine Schritte sich in Milch badeten und der Fels neben mir Ölbäche ergoss; 7 als ich durch das Tor in die Stadt hineinging, meinen Sitz auf dem Platz aufstellte: 8 Die Jünglinge sahen mich und verbargen sich, und die Greise erhoben sich, blieben stehen; 9 die Fürsten hielten die Worte zurück und legten die Hand auf ihren Mund; 10 die Stimme der Vornehmen verstummte, und ihre Zunge klebte an ihrem Gaumen. 11 Denn wenn das Ohr von mir hörte, so pries es mich glücklich, und wenn das Auge mich sah, so legte es Zeugnis von mir ab. 12 Denn ich befreite den Elenden, der um Hilfe rief, und die Waise, die keinen Helfer hatte. 13 Der Segen des Umkommenden kam über mich, und das Herz der Witwe machte ich jubeln. 14 Ich kleidete mich in Gerechtigkeit – und sie bekleidete mich – wie in Oberkleid und Kopfbund in mein Recht. 15 Auge war ich dem Blinden, und Fuß dem Lahmen; 16 Vater war ich den Dürftigen, und die Rechtssache dessen, den ich nicht kannte, untersuchte ich; 17 und ich zerbrach das Gebiss des Ungerechten, und seinen Zähnen entriss ich die Beute. 18 Und ich sprach: In meinem Nest werde ich verscheiden und meine Tage vermehren wie der Sand; 19 meine Wurzel wird ausgebreitet sein am Wasser, und der Tau wird übernachten auf meinem Gezweig; 20 meine Ehre wird frisch bei mir bleiben und mein Bogen sich in meiner Hand verjüngen. 21 Sie hörten mir zu und harrten und horchten schweigend auf meinen Rat. 22 Nach meinem Wort sprachen sie nicht wieder, und auf sie träufelte meine Rede. 23 Und sie harrten auf mich wie auf den Regen und sperrten ihren Mund auf wie nach dem Spätregen. 24 Ich lächelte ihnen zu, wenn sie kein Vertrauen hatten, und das Licht meines Angesichts konnten sie nicht trüben. 25 Ich wählte für sie den Weg aus und saß als Haupt und thronte wie ein König unter der Kriegsschar, wie einer, der Trauernde tröstet.
