1 Und Hiob fuhr in dem Vortrag seiner Sprüche fort und sprach: 2 Wer gibt mir die vorigen Monate zurück und die Tage, in welchen Gott mich behütete? 3 als seine Leuchte über meinem Haupte schien und ich in seinem Lichte durch das Dunkel ging; 4 wie ich in den Tagen meines Herbstes vertrauten Umgang mit Gott bei meinem Zelte pflog; 5 als der Allmächtige noch mit mir war und meine Knaben um mich her; 6 da ich meine Tritte in Milch badete und der Fels neben mir Öl in Strömen goß; 7 als ich noch zum Tore ging, zur Stadt hinauf, und meinen Sitz auf dem Markt aufstellte. 8 Wenn mich die Knaben sahen, so verbargen sie sich, die Greise standen auf und blieben stehen. 9 Die Fürsten hörten auf zu reden und legten die Hand auf den Mund. 10 Die Stimme der Vornehmen stockte, und ihre Zunge klebte am Gaumen. 11 Wessen Ohr mich hörte, der pries mich glücklich, und wessen Auge mich sah, der stimmte mir zu. 12 Denn ich rettete den Elenden, der da schrie, und das Waislein, das keinen Helfer hatte. 13 Der Segen des Verlorenen kam über mich, und ich machte das Herz der Witwe jauchzen. 14 Gerechtigkeit zog ich an, und sie bekleidete mich, mein Talar und Turban war das Recht. 15 Ich war des Blinden Auge und des Lahmen Fuß. 16 Ich war des Armen Vater; und die Streitsache, die ich nicht kannte, untersuchte ich. 17 Ich zerbrach die Stockzähne des Ungerechten und riß ihm den Raub aus den Zähnen. 18 Und so dachte ich, ich würde mit meinem Neste sterben und wie der Phönix viele Tage erleben. 19 Meine Wurzel war an Wassern ausgebreitet, und der Tau übernachtete auf meinem Zweig. 20 Meine Herrlichkeit erneuerte sich bei mir, und mein Bogen verjüngte sich in meiner Hand. 21 Auf mich hörte und wartete man und lauschte stillschweigend auf meinen Rat. 22 Auf meine Rede folgte kein Widerspruch, und meine Worte träufelten auf sie. 23 Sie harrten auf mich, wie das Erdreich auf einen Regen, und sperrten ihren Mund auf, wie nach einem Spätregen. 24 Lächelte ich sie an, so konnten sie es kaum glauben, und das Licht meines Angesichts konnten sie nicht verdunkeln. 25 Ich prüfte ihren Weg und saß oben an und wohnte wie ein König unter dem Volke, wie einer, der die Traurigen tröstet.
