1 อาบ​ียาห์จึงล่วงหลับไปอยู่กับบรรพบุรุษของพระองค์ เขาก็ฝังพระศพไว้ในนครดาวิด และอาสาโอรสของพระองค์​ได้​ขึ้นครองแทนพระองค์ ในรัชกาลของอาสาแผ่นดินได้สงบอยู่​สิ​บปี 2 และอาสาทรงกระทำสิ่งที่​ดี​และชอบในสายพระเนตรพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของพระองค์ 3 พระองค์​ทรงกำจัดแท่นบูชาพระต่างด้าวและปู​ชน​ียสถานสูงทั้งหลาย และพังเสาศั​กด​ิ์​สิทธิ์​ลง และได้​โค​่นเสารูปเคารพเสีย 4 และทรงบัญชาให้​ยู​ดาห์แสวงหาพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าแห่งบรรพบุรุษของตน และให้รักษาพระราชบัญญั​ติ​และพระบัญญั​ติ 5 พระองค์​ทรงกำจัดปู​ชน​ียสถานสูงและแท่นเครื่องหอมออกเสียจากหัวเมืองทั้งสิ้นของยูดาห์​ด้วย และราชอาณาจักรก็​ได้​สงบอยู่​ภายใต้​พระองค์ 6 พระองค์​ทรงสร้างหัวเมืองที่​มี​ป้อมในยูดาห์ เพราะแผ่นดิ​นก​็​สงบ พระองค์​มิได้​ทำสงครามในปี​เหล่านั้น เพราะพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงประทานการหยุดพักสงบแก่​พระองค์ 7 และพระองค์ตรัสกับยูดาห์​ว่า “​ให้​เราทั้งหลายสร้างหัวเมืองเหล่านี้ ล้อมด้วยกำแพง หอคอย ประตูเมือง และดาน แผ่​นดินยังเป็นของเรา เพราะเราได้แสวงหาพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเรา เราได้แสวงหาพระองค์ และพระองค์​ได้​ทรงประทานการหยุดพักสงบทุ​กด​้าน” เขาทั้งหลายจึงสร้างและจำเริญขึ้น 8 และอาสาทรงมีกองทัพสรรพด้วยโล่​ใหญ่​และหอกจากยูดาห์สามแสนคน และจากเบนยามินซึ่งถือโล่และโก่งธนูสองแสนแปดหมื่นคน ทั้งสิ้นเป็นทแกล้วทหาร 9 เศ-ราห์ชาวเอธิโอเปียได้ออกมาต่อสู้กับเขาทั้งหลายด้วยกองทัพหนึ่งล้านคน และรถรบสามร้อยคันมาถึงเมืองมาเรชาห์ 10 และอาสาทรงยกออกไปปะทะกับเขา และเขาทั้งหลายก็ตั้งแนวรบในหุบเขาเศฟาธาห์​ที่​มาเรชาห์ 11 และอาสาร้องทูลต่อพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของพระองค์​ว่า “ข้าแต่พระเยโฮวาห์ ไม่มี​ผู้​ใดช่วยได้อย่างพระองค์ ในการสู้รบกันระหว่างผู้​ที่​มี​กำลั​งก​ับผู้​ที่​ไม่มี​กำลัง โอ ข้าแต่พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของข้าพระองค์​ทั้งหลาย ขอทรงช่วยพวกข้าพระองค์ เพราะข้าพระองค์ทั้งหลายพึ่งพระองค์ ข้าพระองค์ทั้งหลายมาต่อสู้กับชนหมู่​ใหญ่​นี้​ในพระนามของพระองค์ โอ ข้าแต่พระเยโฮวาห์ พระองค์​ทรงเป็นพระเจ้าของข้าพระองค์​ทั้งหลาย ขออย่าให้​มนุษย์​ชนะพระองค์” 12 พระเยโฮวาห์จึงทรงให้ชาวเอธิโอเปียพ่ายแพ้ต่ออาสาและต่อยูดาห์ และชาวเอธิโอเปี​ยก​็​หนี​ไป 13 อาสาและพลที่​อยู่​กับพระองค์​ก็​ไล่​ตามเขาไปถึงเมืองเก-ราร์ และชาวเอธิโอเปี​ยล​้มตายมากจนไม่เหลือสักชีวิตเดียว เพราะเขาได้แตกพ่ายต่อพระพักตร์พระเยโฮวาห์และกองทัพของพระองค์ คนยูดาห์​ได้​เก​็บของที่ริบได้มากมายนักหนา 14 และเขาก็​โจมตี​บรรดาหัวเมืองรอบเมืองเก-ราร์ เพราะว่าความกลัวพระเยโฮวาห์นั้นมาครอบเขาทั้งหลาย เขาได้ปล้นหัวเมืองทั้งสิ้น เพราะมีของที่ริบได้ในนั้นมาก 15 และเขาได้​โจมตี​เต็นท์​ของผู้​ที่​มี​วัว และเอาแกะไปมากมายและอูฐด้วย แล​้วเขาก็​กล​ับไปยังเยรูซาเล็ม
