1 Un dinoṅ meṅ Yahyā baptismā dene wālā āyā aur Yahūdiyā ke registān meṅ elān karne lagā, 2 “Taubā karo, kyoṅki āsmān kī bādshāhī qarīb ā gaī hai.” 3 Yahyā wuhī hai jis ke bāre meṅ Yasāyāh Nabī ne farmāyā, ‘Registān meṅ ek āwāz pukār rahī hai, Rab kī rāh taiyār karo! Us ke rāste sīdhe banāo.’ 4 Yahyā ūṅṭoṅ ke bāloṅ kā libās pahne aur kamr par chamṛe kā paṭkā bāndhe rahtā thā. Ḳhurāk ke taur par wuh ṭiḍḍiyāṅ aur janglī shahd khātā thā. 5 Log Yarūshalam, pūre Yahūdiyā aur Dariyā-e-Yardan ke pūre ilāqe se nikal kar us ke pās āe. 6 Aur apne gunāhoṅ ko taslīm karke unhoṅ ne Dariyā-e-Yardan meṅ Yahyā se baptismā liyā. 7 Bahut-se Farīsī aur Sadūqī bhī wahāṅ āe jahāṅ wuh baptismā de rahā thā. Unheṅ dekh kar us ne kahā, “Ai zahrīle sāṅp ke bachcho! Kis ne tumheṅ āne wāle ġhazab se bachne kī hidāyat kī? 8 Apnī zindagī se zāhir karo ki tum ne wāqaī taubā kī hai. 9 Yih ḳhayāl mat karo ki ham to bach jāeṅge kyoṅki Ibrāhīm hamārā bāp hai. Maiṅ tum ko batātā hūṅ ki Allāh in pattharoṅ se bhī Ibrāhīm ke lie aulād paidā kar saktā hai. 10 Ab to adālat kī kulhāṛī daraḳhtoṅ kī jaṛoṅ par rakhī huī hai. Har daraḳht jo achchhā phal na lāe kāṭā aur āg meṅ jhoṅkā jāegā. 11 Maiṅ to tum taubā karne wāloṅ ko pānī se baptismā detā hūṅ, lekin ek āne wālā hai jo mujh se baṛā hai. Maiṅ us ke jūtoṅ ko uṭhāne ke bhī lāyq nahīṅ. Wuh tumheṅ Rūhul-quds aur āg se baptismā degā. 12 Wuh hāth meṅ chhāj pakaṛe hue anāj ko bhūse se alag karne ke lie taiyār khaṛā hai. Wuh gāhne kī jagah bilkul sāf karke anāj ko apne godām meṅ jamā karegā. Lekin bhūse ko wuh aisī āg meṅ jhoṅkegā jo bujhne kī nahīṅ.” 13 Phir Īsā Galīl se Dariyā-e-Yardan ke kināre āyā tāki Yahyā se baptismā le. 14 Lekin Yahyā ne use rokne kī koshish karke kahā, “Mujhe to āp se baptismā lene kī zarūrat hai, to phir āp mere pās kyoṅ āe haiṅ?” 15 Īsā ne jawāb diyā, “Ab hone hī de, kyoṅki munāsib hai ki ham yih karte hue Allāh kī rāst marzī pūrī kareṅ.” Is par Yahyā mān gayā. 16 Baptismā lene par Īsā fauran pānī se niklā. Usī lamhe āsmān khul gayā aur us ne Allāh ke Rūh ko dekhā jo kabūtar kī tarah utar kar us par ṭhahar gayā. 17 Sāth sāth āsmān se ek āwāz sunāī dī, “Yih merā pyārā Farzand hai, is se maiṅ ḳhush hūṅ.”
