Joshua 5 (AS21)
1 Quando todos os reis dos amorreus que estavam a oeste do Jordão e todos os reis dos cananeus que estavam ao lado do mar ouviram que o SENHOR havia secado as águas do Jordão perante os israelitas até que o atravessassem, o coração deles se derreteu de medo, ficaram sem ânimo, por causa dos israelitas. 2 Naquele tempo o SENHOR disse a Josué: Faze facas de pedra e circuncida os israelitas uma segunda vez. 3 Então Josué fez facas de pedra e circuncidou os israelitas em Gibeate-Haaralote. 4 Foi esta a razão por que Josué os circuncidou: depois que eles saíram do Egito, todos os que haviam saído do Egito, os homens, isto é, todos os homens de guerra, já haviam morrido no caminho, no deserto. 5 Todos esses que saíram haviam sido circuncidados; mas, depois que o povo saiu do Egito, nenhum dos que nasceram no caminho, no deserto, havia sido circuncidado. 6 Por quarenta anos os israelitas andaram pelo deserto, até que morresse toda a nação, isto é, todos os homens de guerra que saíram do Egito, pois eles não haviam obedecido à voz do SENHOR. O SENHOR lhes havia jurado que não lhes deixaria ver a terra que, sob juramento, prometera a seus pais que nos daria, terra que dá leite e mel. 7 Mas em lugar deles pôs os filhos deles; a estes Josué circuncidou, pois eram incircuncisos, porque eles não os haviam circuncidado pelo caminho. 8 E depois que todos foram circuncidados, eles permaneceram no seu lugar no acampamento, até que sararam. 9 Então o SENHOR disse a Josué: Hoje tirei a humilhação do Egito, de modo que aquele lugar se chama Gilgal, até o dia de hoje. 10 E estando acampados em Gilgal, os israelitas celebraram a Páscoa no dia catorze do mês, à tarde, nas planícies de Jericó. 11 E, no dia depois da Páscoa, nesse mesmo dia, eles comeram do produto da terra: pães sem fermento e espigas tostadas. 12 E no dia depois de terem comido do produto da terra, o maná cessou, e os israelitas não o tiveram mais; mas naquele ano eles comeram dos produtos da terra de Canaã. 13 Estando Josué perto de Jericó, levantou os olhos, olhou e diante dele estava em pé um homem com uma espada desembainhada na mão. Josué aproximou-se dele e perguntou-lhe: Estás a nosso favor, ou a favor de nossos adversários? 14 Ele respondeu: Nenhum dos dois. Venho agora como chefe do exército do SENHOR. Então, prostrando-se com o rosto em terra em reverência, Josué lhe perguntou: Que diz o meu senhor ao seu servo? 15 Então o chefe do exército do SENHOR respondeu a Josué: Tira as sandálias dos pés, porque o lugar em que estás é santo. E Josué assim fez.
