1 Agora, vamos falar a respeito dos “alimentos sacrificados aos ídolos.” Na verdade, como se diz, “todos temos conhecimento a respeito desse tema”. O conhecimento nos torna orgulhosos, mas é o amor que nos fortalece. 2 Se alguém acha que sabe tudo, então, não sabe tanto quanto realmente deveria saber. 3 Mas, quem ama a Deus é conhecido por ele. 4 Então, em relação a comer alimentos sacrificados aos ídolos, nós sabemos que os ídolos realmente não existem no mundo e que há somente um único Deus real. 5 Mesmo que algumas coisas são chamadas de “deuses”, seja no céu ou na terra, na verdade, há muitos “deuses” e “senhores.” 6 Mas para nós, há apenas um único Deus, o Pai, a partir de quem todas as coisas foram criadas e que representa o objetivo da nossa existência. E há apenas um Senhor, Jesus Cristo, por meio de quem tudo foi criado e que é o meio de nossa existência. 7 Mas, nem todos têm esse “conhecimento.” Existem pessoas tão acostumadas com os ídolos, que quando elas comem os alimentos sacrificados a um ídolo, a consciência delas (por ser fraca) lhes diz que elas se tornaram impuras. 8 Mas, os alimentos não nos garantem a aprovação de Deus. Se nós não comermos esses alimentos não seremos maus. E, se resolvermos comê-los não seremos bons. 9 Apenas tenham cuidado para não usar essa liberdade que vocês têm de comer alimentos sacrificados aos ídolos para ofender os que têm uma atitude mais fraca. 10 Se alguém que crê o vê como alguém com “mais conhecimento” comendo alimentos em um templo dedicado a algum ídolo, a sua fraca consciência não o convencerá a comer alimentos sacrificados aos ídolos também? 11 Por você ter “mais conhecimento”, esse cristão mais fraco, por quem Cristo morreu, será destruído. 12 Assim, você pecará contra outros cristãos, ferindo suas consciências mais fracas e, consequentemente, você pecará contra Cristo. 13 Então, se o comer alimentos sacrificados aos ídolos faz com que meus irmãos tropecem, eu nunca mais comerei carne novamente. Assim, eu não serei motivo de ofensa para nenhum irmão.
