1 Về vấn đề của cúng thần tượng, chúng ta đều có kiến thức cả. Nhưng kiến thức dễ sinh kiêu căng, còn lòng yêu thương xây dựng cho nhau. 2 Ai tự nghĩ mình hiểu biết nhiều là người chưa biết đủ những điều đáng phải biết. 3 Nhưng ai yêu thương Đức Chúa Trời, Ngài biết người đó. 4 Tôi nói đến việc ăn của cúng thần tượng, chúng ta biết thần tượng khắp thế giới đều không có thật, chỉ Đức Chúa Trời là Đấng Duy Nhất. 5 Dù người ta tin tưởng nhiều thần, nhiều chúa trên trời hay dưới đất. 6 Nhưng chúng ta biết chỉ có một Đức Chúa Trời duy nhất, là Cha, Đấng tạo dựng vạn vật và chúng ta sống vì Ngài. Cũng chỉ có một Chúa Tể vũ trụ là Chúa Cứu Thế Giê-xu, vạn vật do Ngài mà có và chúng ta sống bởi Ngài. 7 Tuy nhiên, không phải mọi người đều ý thức được điều ấy. Một số người trước nay quá quen thuộc với ý niệm thần tượng, nên khi ăn phải của cúng thần tượng, lương tâm yếu đuối của họ bị hoen ố. 8 Thật ra, chẳng phải do thức ăn mà chúng ta được Đức Chúa Trời khen ngợi. Không ăn cũng chẳng thiệt gì, mà ăn cũng chẳng hơn gì. 9 Nhưng hãy cẩn thận, đừng để hành động tự do của anh chị em làm cho người yếu đuối vấp ngã. 10 Nếu có ai thấy anh chị em—là người hiểu biết—ngồi ăn trong đền miếu thần tượng, lương tâm yếu đuối sẽ khuyến khích họ ăn của cúng thần tượng. 11 Như thế, vì “kiến thức” của anh chị em mà một tín hữu yếu đuối—được Chúa Cứu Thế chết thay—phải bị hư vong. 12 Khi anh chị em phạm tội với một tín hữu, làm thương tổn một lương tâm yếu đuối, tức là anh chị em phạm tội với Chúa Cứu Thế. 13 Cho nên, nếu thức ăn gây cho anh chị em tôi phạm tội, tôi sẽ chẳng bao giờ ăn thịt để anh chị em tôi khỏi vấp phạm.
