1 Après cela David battit les Philistins et les abaissa, et il enleva de la main des Philistins Gath et les villes de son ressort. 2 Et il battit Moab, et les Moabites furent assujettis à David et lui payèrent tribut. 3 Et David battit Hadarézer, roi de Tsoba, vers Hamath, lorsqu'il était en chemin pour établir sa domination sur le fleuve de l'Euphrate. 4 Et David lui prit mille chars, sept mille cavaliers et vingt mille fantassins ; et David coupa les jarrets aux chevaux de tous les chars et il ne garda que cent chars. 5 Et les Syriens de Damas vinrent au secours de Hadarézer, roi de Tsoba, et David tua vingt-deux mille d'entre les Syriens. 6 Et David mit [garnison] dans la Syrie de Damas, et les Syriens furent assujettis à David et lui payèrent tribut. L'Eternel donnait la victoire à David partout où il allait. 7 Et David prit les boucliers d'or qu'avaient les officiers d'Hadarézer et les fit porter à Jérusalem. 8 Et de Tibchath et de Cun, villes d'Hadarézer, David enleva de l'airain en très grande quantité. C'est avec cet airain que Salomon fit la mer d'airain, les colonnes et les ustensiles d'airain. 9 Et Thoû, roi de Hamath, ayant appris que David avait battu toutes les forces d'Hadarézer, roi de Tsoba, 10 envoya Hadoram, son fils, vers le roi David pour le saluer et le féliciter de ce qu'il avait fait la guerre à Hadarézer et l'avait battu (car Thoû était continuellement en guerre avec Hadarézer) avec toute sorte de vases d'or, d'argent et d'airain. 11 Et ces objets aussi, le roi David les consacra à l'Eternel, comme il avait déjà fait pour l'argent et l'or qu'il avait rapportés de toutes les nations, d'Edom, de Moab, des fils d'Ammon, des Philistins et d'Amalek. 12 Et Absaï, fils de Tséruja, battit dans la vallée du Sel dix-huit mille Edomites ; 13 et il mit des garnisons dans Edom, et tous les Edomites furent assujettis à David. L'Eternel donnait la victoire à David partout où il allait. 14 Et David régna sur tout Israël, et David faisait droit et justice à tout son peuple. 15 Et Joab, fils de Tséruja, était à la tête de l'armée, et Josaphat, fils d'Ahilud, était chancelier ; 16 et Tsadok, fils d'Ahitub ; et Abimélec, fils d'Abiathar, étaient sacrificateurs ; et Savsa était secrétaire ; 17 et Bénaïa, fils de Jéhojada, était chef des Kéréthiens et des Péléthiens, et les fils de David étaient les premiers auprès du roi.
