Jeremiah 12 (LBA)
1 Tu es juste, ô Eternel, lorsque je plaide contre toi ; je veux seulement parler justice avec toi. Pourquoi la voie des méchants est-elle prospère ? pourquoi les infidèles vivent-ils en paix ? 2 Tu les as plantés ; même ils ont pris racine ; ils croissent, même ils portent du fruit ; tu es près de leur bouche et loin de leur âme ; 3 et toi, Eternel ! tu me connais, tu me vois et tu sondes ce que mon cœur est pour toi. Entraîne-les comme des brebis à la boucherie ; voue-les à la journée du massacre ! 4 Jusques à quand le pays sera-t-il en deuil, et l'herbe de tous les champs desséchée à cause de la méchanceté de ceux qui y habitent ? Bétail et oiseaux ont disparu ; car ils disent : Il ne verra pas notre fin. 5 Si tu cours avec des piétons et qu'ils te fatiguent, comment lutteras-tu avec des cavaliers ? S'il te faut une terre de paix pour te donner confiance, que feras-tu dans les halliers du Jourdain ? 6 Car même tes frères et la maison de ton père te haïssent ; eux-mêmes crient derrière toi à pleine voix ; ne les crois pas quand ils te disent de bonnes paroles ! 7 J'ai quitté ma maison ; j'ai arraché mon héritage ; j'ai livré ce qu'aime mon âme aux mains de ceux qui le haïssent. 8 Mon héritage est devenu pour moi comme un lion dans la forêt ; il a rugi contre moi ; aussi l'ai-je pris en haine ; 9 mon héritage a été devant moi le vautour bigarré ; les vautours sont venus tout autour de lui ; venez, rassemblez toutes les bêtes des champs, amenez-les à la curée ! 10 De nombreux bergers ont détruit ma vigne, foulé mon domaine, changé le lot de mes délices en désert, en dévastation ; 11 on en a fait une dévastation ; dévasté, il mène deuil devant moi ; tout le pays est dévasté, car personne ne l'a pris à cœur. 12 Sur toutes les hauteurs du désert arrivent les dévastateurs, car l'épée de l'Eternel dévore d'un bout du pays à l'autre bout du pays ; il n'y a de salut pour personne ! 13 Ils avaient semé du froment, ils moissonnent des épines ; ils se sont fatigués, mais sans profit ; soyez confus de ce que vous récoltez par l'effet de l'ardeur de la colère de l'Eternel. 14 Ainsi parle I'Eternel sur tous mes mauvais voisins qui s'attaquent à l'héritage que j'ai donné en possession à mon peuple d'Israël : Voici, je vais les arracher de leur sol ; j'arracherai du milieu d'eux la maison de Juda. Il 15 Mais après que je les aurai arrachés, j'aurai de nouveau pitié d'eux, et je les ramènerai chacun dans son héritage et chacun dans son pays. 16 Et s'ils apprennent les voies de mon peuple de telle sorte qu'ils jurent par mon nom en disant : L'Eternel est vivant ! comme ils ont appris à mon peuple à jurer par Baal, ils seront affermis au milieu de mon peuple. 17 Et, s'ils n'écoutent pas, j'arracherai cette nation ; je l'arracherai et la détruirai, dit l'Eternel.
