Jeremiah 39 (LBA)
1 Lorsque Jérusalem fut prise, la neuvième année de Sédécias, roi de Juda, au dixième mois, Nébucadretsar, roi de Babylone, était venu avec toute son armée devant Jérusalem, et ils l'avaient assiégée ; 2 la onzième année de Sédécias, au quatrième mois, le neuf du mois, la ville était forcée, 3 tous les chefs du roi de Babylone entrèrent et se postèrent à la porte du milieu : Nebucadnestar ; Samgar-Nébu, le Sarsékim, chef des eunuques ; Nergal-Saretser, chef des mages, et tous les autres chefs du roi de Babylone. 4 Et lorsque Sédécias, roi de Juda, avec tous les hommes de guerre, les eut vus, ils s'enfuirent et sortirent de la ville, par le chemin du jardin du roi, par la porte entre les deux murs, pour aller vers la plaine. 5 L'armée des Chaldéens les poursuivit, et ils atteignirent Sédécias dans la plaine de Jéricho ; ils le prirent et l'amenèrent vers Nébucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, à Ribla, au pays de Hamath, et il lui prononça sa sentence. 6 Le roi de Babylone égorgea à Ribla les fils de Sédécias sous ses yeux ; le roi de Babylone égorgea aussi tous les notables de Juda ; 7 Et il creva les yeux à Sédécias et le lia de doubles chaînes d'airain pour l'amener à Babylone. 8 Puis les Chaldéens brûlèrent les maisons royales et les maisons du peuple et démolirent les murailles de Jérusalem. 9 Quant au reste des gens qui étaient encore dans la ville, aux transfuges qui avaient passé à lui et au reste des gens qui étaient demeurés, Nébuzaradan, prévôt des bouchers, les transporta à Babylone ; 10 et d'entre les pauvres gens qui ne possédaient rien, Nébuzaradan en laissa dans le pays de Juda, et il leur donna des vignes et des champs. 11 Or, Nébucadretsar, roi de Babylone, donna cet ordre à Nébuzaradan, prévôt des bouchers, touchant Jérémie : 12 Prends-le, veille sur lui, ne lui fais point de mal, mais agis avec lui comme il te le dira. 13 Nébuzaradan donc, prévôt des bouchers, Nébusazban, chef des eunuques, Nergal-Saretser, chef des mages, et tous les chefs du roi de Babylone, 14 envoyèrent l'ordre de retirer Jérémie de la cour du corps de garde ; ils le remirent à Guédalia, fils d'Achikam, fils de Saphan, pour le mener dans la maison ; et il demeura parmi le peuple. 15 La parole de l'Eternel fut adressée à Jérémie, alors qu'il était enfermé dans la cour du corps de garde, en ces mots : 16 Va, parle à Ebed-Mélec, Ethiopien, et dis-lui : Ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées, Dieu d'Israël. Voici, j'exécute mes paroles sur cette ville, pour le mal et non pour le bien, et ces choses seront aujourd'hui sous tes yeux. 17 Mais je te délivrerai en ce jour, dit l'Eternel, et tu ne seras point livré aux hommes que tu crains. 18 Je te ferai échapper certainement, et tu ne tomberas point sous l'épée ; tu auras ta vie pour butin, parce que tu t'es confié en moi, dit l'Eternel.
