1  Quando Davi havia acabado de passar pelo topo, Ziba, o servo de Mefibosete, veio ao seu encontro com dois jumentos carregados com duzentos pães, cem cachos de passas, cem de frutas de verão e um recipiente de couro cheio de vinho. 2 Então o rei perguntou a Ziba: Que pretendes com isso? Ziba respondeu: Os jumentos são para o transporte da família do rei; os pães e as frutas de verão para os moços comerem; e o vinho é para os que se cansarem no deserto beberem. 3 O rei perguntou ainda: Onde está o filho de teu senhor? Ziba respondeu ao rei: Ele permanece em Jerusalém, pois disse: Hoje a casa de Israel me restituirá o reino de meu pai. 4 Então o rei disse a Ziba: Tudo quanto pertencia a Mefibosete é teu. Então Ziba, inclinando-se, disse: Que eu seja aceito por ti, ó rei, meu senhor. 5 Quando o rei Davi chegou a Baurim, ia saindo dali um homem chamado Simei, filho de Gera, da linhagem da família de Saul; ele vinha amaldiçoando. 6 Também atirava pedras contra Davi e todos os seus servos, embora todo o povo e todos os guerreiros estivessem à direita e à esquerda do rei. 7 E, amaldiçoando-o, Simei dizia assim: Sai, sai, assassino, perverso! 8 O SENHOR está te retribuindo por todo o sangue derramado da família de Saul, no lugar de quem tens reinado. Mas o SENHOR já entregou o reino a teu filho Absalão; agora tu estás condenado, pois és um assassino. 9 Então Abisai, filho de Zeruia, disse ao rei: Por que esse cão morto amaldiçoaria o rei, meu senhor? Deixa-me passar e cortar-lhe a cabeça. 10 Mas o rei disse: Que tenho eu convosco, filhos de Zeruia? Se ele amaldiçoa é porque o SENHOR lhe disse: Amaldiçoa Davi. Então, quem dirá: Por que fizeste isso? 11 Davi disse mais a Abisai e a todos os seus servos: Meu próprio filho, gerado por mim, procura matar-me; quanto mais ainda esse benjamita? Deixai-o; deixai que amaldiçoe, porque o SENHOR lhe ordenou. 12 Talvez o SENHOR olhe para a minha aflição e me dê o bem em lugar da maldição deste dia. 13 Davi e os seus homens prosseguiam seu caminho, enquanto Simei ia pela encosta do monte, defronte dele, caminhando e amaldiçoando, e atirava pedras contra ele e jogava terra. 14 O rei e todo o povo que ia com ele chegaram cansados ao Jordão e ali descansaram. 15 Absalão e todo o povo, os homens de Israel, chegaram a Jerusalém; e Aitofel estava com ele. 16 Husai, o arquita, amigo de Davi, foi até Absalão e disse-lhe: Viva o rei, viva o rei! 17 Porém, Absalão perguntou a Husai: É assim que mostras lealdade para com o teu amigo? Por que não acompanhaste o teu amigo? 18 Husai lhe respondeu: Não! Serei daquele que o SENHOR, este povo e todos os homens de Israel escolheram; ficarei com ele. 19 Além disso, a quem eu serviria? Por acaso não seria a seu filho? Servirei a ti como servi a teu pai. 20 Então Absalão disse a Aitofel: Dai o vosso conselho sobre o que devemos fazer. 21 Aitofel respondeu a Absalão: Deita com as concubinas de teu pai, que ele deixou cuidando do palácio. Assim, quando todo o Israel ouvir que te fizeste detestável para com teu pai, todos que estão contigo se reanimarão. 22 Assim, armaram uma tenda no terraço para Absalão e ele se deitou com as concubinas de seu pai, à vista de todo o Israel. 23 Os conselhos que Aitofel dava naqueles dias eram considerados, tanto por Davi como por Absalão, como resposta de Deus a uma consulta.
