1 เมื่อดาวิดเสด็จเลยยอดเขาไปหน่อยหนึ่ง ดูเถิด ศิบามหาดเล็กของเมฟีโบเชทก็เข้ามาเฝ้าพระองค์ มีลาคู่หนึ่งผูกอานพร้อม บรรทุกขนมปังสองร้อยก้อน องุ่นแห้งร้อยพวง และผลไม้ฤดูร้อนอีกร้อยหนึ่ง กับน้ำองุ่นหนึ่งถุงหนัง 2 กษัตริย์ตรัสกับศิบาว่า “เจ้านำสิ่งเหล่านี้มาทำไม” ศิบาทูลตอบว่า “ลาคู่นั้นเพื่อราชวงศ์จะได้ทรง ขนมปังและผลไม้ฤดูร้อนสำหรับชายหนุ่มรับประทาน และน้ำองุ่นเพื่อผู้ที่อ่อนเปลี้ยอยู่กลางถิ่นทุรกันดารจะได้ดื่ม” 3 กษัตริย์ตรัสว่า “บุตรเจ้านายของเจ้าอยู่ที่ไหนเล่า” ศิบากราบทูลกษัตริย์ว่า “ดูเถิด ท่านพักอยู่ในเยรูซาเล็ม เพราะท่านว่า ‘วันนี้วงศ์วานอิสราเอลจะคืนราชอาณาจักรบิดาของเราให้แก่เรา’” 4 แล้วกษัตริย์ตรัสกับศิบาว่า “ดูเถิด ทรัพย์สมบัติของเมฟีโบเชทก็ตกเป็นของเจ้าทั้งหมด” และศิบากราบทูลว่า “โอ ข้าแต่กษัตริย์เจ้านายของข้าพระองค์ ข้าพระองค์ขอทูลวิงวอนต่อพระองค์ด้วยความถ่อมใจ ขอทรงให้ข้าพระองค์ได้รับพระกรุณาในสายพระเนตรของพระองค์” 5 เมื่อกษัตริย์ดาวิดเสด็จมายังตำบลบาฮูริม ดูเถิด มีชายคนหนึ่งอยู่ในครอบครัววงศ์วานซาอูลชื่อชิเมอีบุตรชายเก-รา เขาออกมาเดินพลางด่าพลาง 6 และเอาหินขว้างดาวิดและขว้างบรรดาข้าราชการของกษัตริย์ดาวิด พวกพลและชายฉกรรจ์ทั้งสิ้นก็อยู่ข้างขวาและข้างซ้ายของพระองค์ 7 ชิเมอีร้องด่ามาว่า “จงไปเสียให้พ้น เจ้าคนกระหายโลหิต เจ้าคนอันธพาล จงไปเสียให้พ้น 8 พระเยโฮวาห์ได้ทรงสนองเจ้าในเรื่องโลหิตทั้งสิ้นแห่งวงศ์วานของซาอูลผู้ซึ่งเจ้าเข้าครองแทนอยู่นั้น และพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงมอบราชอาณาจักรไว้ในมืออับซาโลมบุตรของเจ้า ดูเถิด ความพินาศตกอยู่บนเจ้าแล้ว เพราะเจ้าเป็นคนกระหายโลหิต” 9 อาบีชัยบุตรชายนางเศรุยาห์จึงกราบทูลกษัตริย์ว่า “ทำไมปล่อยให้สุนัขตายตัวนี้มาด่ากษัตริย์เจ้านายของข้าพระองค์ ขออนุญาตให้ข้าพระองค์ข้ามไปตัดหัวมันออกเสีย” 10 แต่กษัตริย์ตรัสว่า “บุตรชายทั้งสองของนางเศรุยาห์เอ๋ย เรามีธุระอะไรกับเจ้า ถ้าเขาด่าเพราะพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสสั่งเขาว่า ‘จงด่าดาวิด’ แล้วใครจะพูดว่า ‘ทำไมเจ้าจึงกระทำเช่นนี้’” 11 ดาวิดตรัสกับอาบีชัยและข้าราชการทั้งสิ้นของพระองค์ว่า “ดูเถิด ลูกของเราเองที่ได้ออกมาจากบั้นเอวของเรายังแสวงหาชีวิตของเรา ยิ่งกว่านั้น ทำไมกับคนเบนยามินคนนี้จะไม่กระทำเล่า ช่างเขาเถิด ให้เขาด่าไป เพราะพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงบอกเขาแล้ว 12 บางทีพระเยโฮวาห์จะทอดพระเนตรความทุกข์ใจของเรา และพระเยโฮวาห์จะทรงสนองเราด้วยความดีเพราะเขาด่าเราในวันนี้” 13 ดาวิดจึงทรงดำเนินไปตามทางพร้อมกับพลของพระองค์ ฝ่ายชิเมอีก็เดินไปตามเนินเขาตรงข้าม เขาเดินพลางด่าพลาง เอาก้อนหินปาและเอาฝุ่นซัดใส่ 14 กษัตริย์กับพลทั้งปวงที่อยู่กับพระองค์ก็มารู้สึกเหนื่อยอ่อน จึงทรงพักผ่อนเอาแรง ณ ที่นั่น 15 ฝ่ายอับซาโลมกับประชาชนทั้งสิ้น คือคนอิสราเอลก็มาถึงกรุงเยรูซาเล็ม และอาหิโธเฟลก็มาด้วย 16 และอยู่มาเมื่อหุชัยชาวอารคี สหายของดาวิดเข้าเฝ้าอับซาโลม หุชัยกราบทูลอับซาโลมว่า “ขอกษัตริย์ทรงพระเจริญ ขอกษัตริย์ทรงพระเจริญ” 17 และอับซาโลมตรัสกับหุชัยว่า “นี่หรือความเมตตาต่อสหายของท่าน ทำไมท่านไม่ไปกับสหายของท่านเล่า” 18 หุชัยกราบทูลอับซาโลมว่า “มิใช่พ่ะย่ะค่ะ พระเยโฮวาห์กับประชาชนเหล่านี้กับคนอิสราเอลทั้งสิ้นเลือกตั้งผู้ใดไว้ ข้าพระองค์ขอเป็นฝ่ายผู้นั้น ข้าพระองค์จะขออยู่กับผู้นั้น 19 อีกประการหนึ่งข้าพระองค์ควรจะปรนนิบัติผู้ใด มิใช่โอรสของท่านผู้นั้นดอกหรือ ข้าพระองค์ได้ปรนนิบัติต่อพระพักตร์เสด็จพ่อของพระองค์มาแล้วฉันใด ก็ขอปรนนิบัติต่อพระพักตร์พระองค์ฉันนั้น” 20 อับซาโลมตรัสถามอาหิโธเฟลว่า “เราจะทำอย่างไรดี จงให้คำปรึกษาของท่าน” 21 อาหิโธเฟลกราบทูลอับซาโลมว่า “จงเข้าหานางสนมของเสด็จพ่อของพระองค์ซึ่งเสด็จพ่อทิ้งไว้ให้เฝ้าพระราชวัง เมื่อคนอิสราเอลทั้งสิ้นได้ยินว่าพระองค์เป็นที่เกลียดชังของเสด็จพ่อแล้ว บรรดามือเหล่านั้นที่อยู่ฝ่ายพระองค์ก็จะเข้มแข็งขึ้น” 22 เขาจึงกางเต็นท์ให้อับซาโลมไว้ที่บนดาดฟ้าหลังคา และอับซาโลมก็ทรงเข้าหานางสนมของพระราชบิดาของพระองค์ท่ามกลางสายตาของอิสราเอลทั้งสิ้น 23 ในครั้งนั้นคำปรึกษาของอาหิโธเฟลที่ทูลถวายก็เหมือนกับว่าคนได้ทูลถามจากพระดำรัสของพระเจ้า คำปรึกษาทั้งสิ้นที่อาหิโธเฟลทูลถวายต่อดาวิดและอับซาโลมเป็นดังนั้น
