1 Então Davi perguntou: Ainda resta alguém da família de Saul, para quem eu possa fazer o bem, por amor de Jônatas? 2 Havia um servo da família de Saul chamado Ziba; levaram-no à presença de Davi. O rei lhe perguntou: Tu és Ziba? Ele respondeu: Teu servo! 3 O rei prosseguiu: Não existe alguém da família de Saul para quem eu possa demonstrar a bondade de Deus? Então Ziba disse ao rei: Ainda há um filho de Jônatas, aleijado dos pés. 4 O rei lhe perguntou: Onde ele está? Ziba respondeu ao rei: Está na casa de Maquir, filho de Amiel, em Lo-Debar. 5 Então o rei Davi mandou trazê-lo da casa de Maquir, filho de Amiel, em Lo-Debar. 6 Então Mefibosete, filho de Jônatas, filho de Saul, veio a Davi, e se prostrou com o rosto em terra e fez-lhe reverência. Davi perguntou: Mefibosete? Ele respondeu: Aqui está teu servo. 7 Então Davi lhe disse: Não temas, porque certamente serei bondoso para contigo, por amor de Jônatas, teu pai, e te restituirei todas as terras de Saul, teu pai; e tu sempre comerás à minha mesa. 8 Então Mefibosete lhe fez reverência e disse: Quem é o teu servo, para atentares para um cão morto como eu? 9 Então Davi chamou Ziba, servo de Saul, e lhe disse: Dei ao filho de teu senhor tudo o que pertencia a Saul e a toda a sua família. 10 Tu cultivarás a terra com teus filhos e servos, e colherás dos frutos para que o filho de teu senhor tenha alimento para comer; mas Mefibosete, filho de teu senhor, comerá sempre à minha mesa. Ziba tinha quinze filhos e vinte servos. 11 Ziba respondeu ao rei: Tudo quanto o rei, meu senhor, mandar o seu servo fazer, lhe será feito. O rei disse: E Mefibosete comerá à minha mesa como um dos filhos do rei. 12 Mefibosete tinha um filho pequeno, chamado Mica. E todos quantos moravam na casa de Ziba eram servos de Mefibosete. 13 Mefibosete passou a morar em Jerusalém, por isso sempre comia à mesa do rei. Ele era aleijado de ambos os pés.
