1 O destruidor avança contra ti. Guarda a fortaleza, vigia o caminho, fortalece a resistência, reúne todas as forças. 2 Pois o SENHOR restaura a glória de Jacó, bem como a glória de Israel; porque os saqueadores os despojaram e destruíram os seus ramos. 3 Os escudos dos seus valentes são vermelhos, os guerreiros estão vestidos de escarlate; os carros brilham como no dia do combate, e as lanças vibram. 4 Os carros andam furiosamente nas ruas; cruzam as praças em todas as direções; parecem tochas e correm como relâmpagos. 5 Os nobres são convocados; eles tropeçam na sua marcha; apressam-se para chegar ao muro da cidade e para armar a proteção. 6 As comportas dos rios se abrem, e o palácio é destruído. 7 Está decretado: ela está desprotegida e será levada cativa; e as suas servas gemem como pombas, batendo no peito. 8 Desde o início Nínive é como um tanque de águas que agora se esvazia. Parai, parai, clama‑se; mas ninguém olha para trás. 9 Saqueai a prata, saqueai o ouro! Seus tesouros não têm fim; está cheia de tudo o que é valioso. 10 Ela está saqueada, esgotada e devastada; derrete-se o coração, tremem os joelhos, e todo o corpo dói; o rosto de todos eles fica pálido. 11 Onde está agora a toca dos leões, e a habitação dos leões fortes, onde o leão, a leoa e o filhote de leão andavam sem que ninguém os espantasse? 12 O leão caçava o que bastava para os seus filhotes e estrangulava a presa para as suas leoas, e enchia as suas cavernas de presas, e as suas tocas de rapina. 13 Coloco-me contra ti, diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos. Queimarei os teus carros no fogo, e a espada devorará os teus leões fortes; e exterminarei da terra a tua presa; e não se ouvirá mais a voz dos teus embaixadores.
