Titus 1 (AS21)
1 Paulo, servo de Deus e apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, para conduzir os eleitos de Deus à fé e ao pleno conhecimento da verdade, que leva à piedade, 2 na esperança da vida eterna, a qual Deus, que não pode mentir, prometeu antes dos tempos eternos, 3 e no tempo próprio manifestou a sua palavra, mediante a pregação que me foi confiada segundo a ordem de Deus, nosso Salvador; 4 a Tito, meu verdadeiro filho na fé que nos é comum: Graça e paz da parte de Deus Pai e de Cristo Jesus, nosso Salvador. 5 Foi por isso que te deixei em Creta, para que pusesses em boa ordem o que faltava, e que em cada cidade estabelecesses presbíteros, como já te orientei; 6 alguém que seja irrepreensível, marido de uma só mulher, que tenha filhos crentes que não sejam acusados de libertinagem, nem desobedientes. 7 Pois, como responsável pela obra de Deus, é necessário que o bispo seja irrepreensível, não arrogante, nem inclinado a brigas, nem ao vinho, nem violento, nem dominado pela ganância; 8 mas hospitaleiro, amigo do bem, sóbrio, justo, piedoso, equilibrado; 9 que se mantenha firme na palavra fiel, conforme a doutrina, para que seja capaz tanto de exortar na sã doutrina quanto de convencer os seus opositores. 10 Porque há muitos insubordinados, meros faladores e enganadores, principalmente os da circuncisão. 11 É preciso fazê-los calar, pois, motivados pela ganância, transtornam casas inteiras, ensinando o que não convém. 12 Um dos seus próprios profetas disse: Os cretenses são sempre mentirosos, animais ferozes, glutões preguiçosos. 13 Esse testemunho é verdadeiro. Portanto, repreende-os severamente, para que tenham uma fé sadia, 14 não dando ouvidos a fábulas judaicas, nem a mandamentos de homens que se desviam da verdade. 15 Tudo é puro para os puros, mas, para os corrompidos e incrédulos, nada é puro; pelo contrário, tanto a mente como a consciência deles estão contaminadas. 16 Eles afirmam que conhecem a Deus, mas o negam por suas obras; são detestáveis, desobedientes e incapazes de qualquer boa obra.
